I decided to go to NYC for my spring break, but I didn't really know the City that well. Wanting to create a thorough trip, I bought this book. It took me about 4 hours to skim through the whole thing and plan my 8-day trip. The information in this book is very informative. It gives honest ratings about the venues; I think it has a 3-star scale. I visited almost all of the sites becuaes I had 8 full days there, and the ratings really matched my opinion about that place. So, if you cannot afford much time to your trip, you can really plan well just by the book. Also, make sure you buy Citypass; it's really worth it. However, the only thing I thought this book should have is the subway map. You can get a free one at any subway station, so it's not really a problem. You just have to have a few pieces when you're walking around. The map at the end of the book is helpful too in a sense that you can look for sites near your location, and make sure you plan your day efficiently and effectively make use of your time.

I bought both the Frommer's and the Fodor's books for my travel to NYC, since I couldn't decide which ones to buy based off the reviews so I just ended up buying both. I found both were useful, but I liked the layout of the Fodor's more. I do like this book because I find it very informative. This was my first time buying a Frommer's book and I liked it

This was great for suggesting itineraries for each day on each side of town. I appreciated the advice on what to definitely see and what to not waste time on. Frommer's also points out free things to do in NYC.

I purchased this book to help plan our activities on a recent trip to NYC. The amount of information included is incredible! There was thorough information on every attraction and neighborhood that we were interested in visiting. There was a tear-out folding map that we did not take on the trip with us, but there were several maps included throughout the book that we referred to as we worked our way through the city. The information provided was accurate (as Frommer's always is) and the full-color pictures were very nice.As I stated in the title of my review, I think this was a great investment for our trip, especially at the Amazon price!

After my purchase of this on line product, I realized it was out of date, not current, and not at all usefull on an I-pad or any pad. In book form one can easily flip between sections of the guide while even holding a map open, try doing that on an I pad. if I could I would return this product as unacceptable. But hey, live and learn.

I've done a lot of vacation planning. Honestly, we're Fodor's people, but this Frommer's New York City 2012 is very comprehensive and flush with information. I've looked at some others, but this is the only one I need and the only one that will be making the trip with us.

It's a bit hard to understand the organization of this book.. but that's just because of the so many neighborhoods in NYC. I love Frommers and I always use his guidebooks.

We've taken a number of European trips using Rick Steves guides. We've never been given a bum steer. What he says is worth seeing always is, and when we've tried a lower-rated sight, we've tended to say "Rick Steves was right...we could have skipped this."This edition is updated to take into account that it is now possible to fly (cheaply!) into Grenada, which fundamentally changes his recommended 3-week trip. If you are using an older edition, this one is worth looking at.

This will be our 5th trip to Europe using Rick Steves' books. He has the best information of what to see, what not to waste our time on, and how long things will take. Also, he gives excellent advice on trains, hotels, and restaurants. Since neither my husband nor I like tours and crowds, planning our own trip with Rick's books is the perfect way for us to travel. We have never been disappointed with his recommendations!

Rick Steve's guide are great if you like to visit cities by foot and explore historical sights and landmarks. It's a good mix of historical context and practical information. I still had to find lodging on my own, though, because I use airbnb and not hotels. Nothing beats having your own kitchen.

Love his guides. Always have all the info you need

Does not include any of the Canary Islands. States includes Morocco, but it's only Tangiers, and not Casa Blanca, where many cruises from Barcelona go.

Used his Italy book before, and it was great, so we got this one for our next trip. So far, so good!

Rick is a terrific tour guide as are his many written and digital forms of education and guidance. And Spain is my spirit home.

We have an 8-year-old son who loves anything involving Lincoln. When I read it to him, I was just as interested as he was, as I didn't know of the real-life story. Illustration and typography are top-notch as well. I can't believe this doesn't have more reviews!

Loved this book. My 9 year old and I both read it and I’m not sure who enjoyed it more. Great story and very cool illustrations.

Brilliant story and illustrations. So unique and creative. We bought if for our child and enjoyed it just as much as she did. Highly highly recommend!

An exciting and fact-filled introduction to Pinkerton and a thwarted assassination attempt on Lincoln.Bold graphics, cartoon-style characters, and a spotlight emanating from Pinkerton's eyes all draw young readers' attention to a topic that otherwise might not intrigue. Then, the narrative style retains readers' interest and imparts a fascinating tale. Readers will learn that Pinkerton, an immigrant fleeing arrest, used his powers of observation and deduction to catch counterfeiters who were working on the island where he harvested lumber for his cooperage (I learned that a cooperage is a barrel business). This ultimately led to his career as a detective, which led him to rumors of an assassination plot against Lincoln before his inauguration, which led him to thwart the plot, which led Lincoln to employ him in the new Secret Service. Fast forward to 1999, and Securitas acquired the still-successful Pinkerton business. Back matter provides further detailed biographical and company history.With many inset pictures, captions, and eye catching fonts, Moss and Holmes intrigue, inform, and inspire further learning. If the terms mail app, google, skype and e-mailing used by friends and family members sound like they are speaking a foreign language, you are a good candidate for this this very informative and enlighting guidebook to incorporating computers and the Internet into your daily life. The book wisely begins at the beginning with solid tips and advice regarding buying and setting up your first computer, then advances to other important knowledge in 13 addition "lessons" and numerous now try-it-yourself activities. The language in this guidebook, based on Windows 10 usage, is straightforward and the authors' tone is patient and encouraging rather than condescending. Although this book is geared toward the 55-plus crowd, it's not a bad investment for computer users of any age to offer helpful advice for going beyond your current computer skill level. Computers are here to stay, so even if you are retired from the day to day rat race, there are plenty of reasons to enrich your life and have some fun by using "Computers for Seniors" to master a wide range of new skills.

I wrote this review for my genealogy website, but wanted to share it here as well.I don't know about you, but every time Microsoft makes a major shift if their operating system, it takes some amount of time to find where all of the familiar stuff has gone. I found that to be especially true with Windows 10. Fortunately, there's a new book to the rescue, and it's written specifically for seniors.Titled Computers for Seniors, the book contains 14 lessons with subjects such as plugging in, setting up your computer, Internet safety and security, connecting with friends and family, downloading music and video, reading ebooks with Overdrive, and much more.Weighing in at over 300 pages, the book is richly illusrated with color photos and LOTS of simple, easy-to-follow instructions. For me, Windows 10 was such a departure to my previous operating systems, it took this book's "how-to" elements to walk me through the changes so I could get back up and running doing everything I was used to.Published by no starch press in San Francisco, each chapter is broken down into simple sections. Throughout the sections you'll find activities such as 'deleting unwanted photos" or "restoring disappearing apps". At the end of each chapter is a review of everything covered in that particular chapter.If you want to go beyond basic computing, I can highly recommend this book as it delves into topics that help you REALLY get the most out of your computer. It goes way beyond web browsing and email.
