What food should i buy, what should I avoid, what is too much? There were a lot of questions! I love Ellen Hopkins, she should consider writing adult as much as she does young adult. The book was clever, with some mystery and like any other Ellen Hopkins book I just couldn't put it down. The description of the book is little misleading, I thought it would be about an abusive and controlling relationship, it's not. Tara is very much the equal to Cavin. Just sit back and enjoy. PS: this book as the traditional novel format with some poems in between chapters unlike all her other books.

This book was lacking. It wasn't super interesting and I just kept waiting for some sort of crazy twist to liven it up. It never came.

This woman is poetic no matter what style she writes in. Amazing character development, and enough mystery and intrigue to keep you up at night rethinking what you just read. Love. This. Book.

Definitely not my favorite... I'm a huge Ellen Hopkins fan! However, this book ended very abruptly, like she ran out of things to write about... It's got some very sexy scenes, but I don't honk erotica is for her.

I could not put this book down. So much so, when I finished, I had to download the second book in this series so that I could see how it all ends. Highly recommend.

Although it took me longer to become involved with this one of Ellen Hopkins' books, I definitely found myself there. I'm a much bigger fan of her fast-paced YA novels, but this book got me my fix and I'm happy to say that I enjoyed it, even with the loose ends. I'll be hoping to read those ends tied up in a future book, for sure.

This book blew me away, the author is new to me and I am hooked, can't wait to binge read. Psychological drama at it's best!

I found " A short guide to Writing about Art" by Sylvan Barnet to be very informative and the subject matter well organized.The book is easy to read and I really enjoyed reading it. It is well written and useful for anyone writing about art- It may be writing an essay about art or writing a review of an exhibition. It also has useful information on how to look at art.

This was a good source during my time studying art history in college. I referred to it often but find I have no use for it now that I'm done with school. If this book is required for a class at your school, I would try renting it rather than purchasing it. It may come in handy for the short term but probably not for the long term.

This book really helped me write art analysis papers. There are example papers, questions to ask yourself when looking at art, etc. I'm glad I chose to pick up this suggested title--it wasn't mandatory for the class, but maybe it should've been.

He presents different subjects and types of papers and shows actual examples students have done when writing their papers.

Bought this book for my art history class and it is VERY informative. There are sample essays in the book and it tells you what you should and shouldn't write which was very helpful when I was writing my essays. Overall, definitely recommend if you want to write about art or are taking an art class that requires writing an essay.

I am generally a huge fan of the Eyewitness guides -- they are always my first pick when I am going somewhere new. I love the "Top 10" guides for when my visit to a city is short and I am able to pick just a few places to go and know I will also be provided with a handy pocket transit map. The translation of this one to a Kindle edition, though, was disastrous -- Eyewitness guides are nothing without maps and pictures but, when the Kindle-ized this one, they must have lost the majority of the images and all useful maps. There were some, mostly thumbnail, pictures, but they were in a resolution that did not allow them to enlarge nicely. The map of the top 10 sites, could only be seen without seeing the corresponding list of the 10 sites. Same for the map of the top 10 restaurants, top 10 monuments and memorials, etc. Maps of major sites, such as the features of the Schonbrunn's gardens, can only be seen with no labels or accompanying text at all, translating them from maps into meaningless collections of rectangles of varying colors -- the same was sadly true of all the maps to key features of major sites. Can I get my money back?I would like to blame all of my complaints on the poor translation of the book into a Kindle edition, but I also think it's fair to say there's a shortage of good content. There should have been some more Top 10 lists included. I might have listed them in their entirety in this review. Top 10 Singapore and Top 10 San Diego and all the other Top 10 books all are so much more helpful.

Having only four days in Vienna, we wanted to pack in the most while keeping an eye on expenses. The "Top 10" guide greatly facilitated the efficient organization of our sightseeing, cultural, and dining experiences. Took the guide's advice and saved/saw the most by using the airport train and hop on/off two day tour bus pass. The included easy to read compact city center map complimented the guide. It's not necessary to purchase a separate city map.

We have been using DK Eyewitness Travel books for quite a while now. We use the regular size books and also the portable Top 10 books as well. I love reading the historical backgrounds that give you an idea about the country and people you will be visiting, the colorful pictures, maps, recommendations and practical information sections. I am so used to the practicality of the way the book is set up, I get lost when I look at other travel books. When we plan a trip, the first thing I do is look up the most current DK Eyewitness Travel book. Loved Vienna and this book did not fail us, again.

TL;DR: Many of the suggestions don't have map reference, which makes it hard to use/useless.This was my first and probably last Top 10 buy and the first book that I thought about returning. I always buy a traveling book before visiting a new city, not only for the duration of the trip, but it can be used as a simple log of places I have visited, afterwards. Short story, I won't be using this book in Vienna. And here is two samples for the lack of reference:Top 10 walks (p68): 4 of them refer to other pages. none of them have a map reference, only 2 gives some clue on how to get.Top 10 Hotels in *great location* (p143): 6 of them don't have a map reference.All in all, if you are not planning to use the map, it's a good book, but if you want a standalone book and map, it's not the book.

We just returned from Vienna where we spent 2 1/2 days. The Top 10 guide was perfect for our trip as it highlighted the most popular/best things to do. We hit over half of their recommended Top 10 list and had an absolutley wonderful visit (snow and all). If you are going to be visiting Vienna for more than 3 days, however, I'd recommend you get the "full" version of the Eyewitness Vienna guide. :)

I purchased these for my daughter and friends upon their request. They found these books to be extremely well done and helpful. They said the maps and additional info for the country made getting around and sightseeing a breeze. As a matter of fact, they enjoyed them so much that they will not allow me to post and resell them! They are going to keep them for perhaps a future trip! Money well spent!

Like the rest of the series, Vienna is also great. Enough detail for a weekend or week visit. True everything to see/do in Vienna isn't listed, but plenty is and it is a great starting reference for first-time or repeat visitors. We'll keep buying/using these Top 10 guides.

Born Ethiopian, raised Swedish, and now one of New York City's top chefs, Samuelsson (Aquavit: And the New Scandinavian Cuisine) has written an exotic yet accessible book that will hasten the coming of the African fusion cookery he envisions. His 204 recipes and 258 color photos are enriched with personal and political history; as in his many condiments and sauces, the balance is right. While he stresses the diversity and bounty of the second-largest continent, he repeatedly describes African cuisine as poor people's cooking, crafted with simple tools and necessarily emphasizing starches, vegetables and big flavors. Whether it's rosemary for Honey Bread or turmeric, ginger and cinnamon in his Vegetable Samosas, herbs and spices are always sauteed in oil or tossed in a hot dry pan, to intensify and mellow. He even proposes toasting the cinnamon for the whipped cream accompanying his Ethiopian Chocolate Rum Cake. The recipe for the cake is typical: the batter is prepared in a single bowl, mixed with a spoon, and bakes up moist and gingerbread-like, with great keeping properties. This is a frustrating cookbook. I think it could be an AMAZING cookbook. But only about a tenth of the pics are actually of the food!!! I treasure the diversity and beauty of the pics of people from Africa. But im not interested in seeing a cookbook almost exclusively w pics of people and not of the food! If its the soul of a new cuisine please put in pics of the cuisine. My first scan through i actually thought there were few recipes. Second time i realized there are a lot of recipes - just paired w extraneous albeit gorgeous pics of people. Food. Food food food. If i had seen this book in the store i would have skipped it but went out on that online limb. Hopefully there will be recipes im interested in trying to justify the $$$ but i will have to sift through without guidance from the many beautiful non-food related pics. I have attached an example from the book showing the recipe for crispy avocado to demonstrate. GREAT photo! NOT a crispy avocado!!!

I bought this book because I was interested in learning how to cook a few of the staples of Ethiopian cooking. Although this is not a book about Ethiopian cooking, it does contain a handful of good Ethiopian recipes. There is no recipe for the Ethiopian staple ingredient known as shiro. And the recipe for the ubiquitous (in Ethiopian terms) flat bread injera is definitely tailored to western ingredients and techniques. There is a recipe for the spicy chicken dish Doro Wat. Beyond Ethiopian cooking, recipes that caught my attention include Jerk Chicken, Harissa Roasted Turkey Breast, and a curry style Lamb Dish. These dishes hale from other parts of Africa.This is book about African cooking, with recipes from Ethiopia, Morocco, Senegal, as well as the African diaspora in the West Indies and Brooklyn. The author, Marcus Samuelsson, was born in north Africa and was adopted by Swedish parents. He went on to own the restaurant Aquavit in New York. This book is, in one sense, a cook book: it has over 200 recipes. But it is more Samuelsson travelled to many parts of the African continent to collect information about dishes and cooking techniques, and he tells his travel stories in this book. So at another level way we find the book as a story about a chef reconnecting with his roots. The theme of food and cooking as a connective social activity weaves a tight underlying structure in the book, making it somehow richer than it would be as just another list of recipes.I find it all but impossible to cook recipes exactly as I find them in any book. Instead, I use them as jumping off points for new recipes in my own kitchen. I consider a cookbook especially good if it contains at least one recipe for a food that I love to cook and that I commit to regular practice. Few cookbooks manage to do this. I expect this one to yield at least two or three - and that would put it far above average.I can recommend this book to any cook who likes to take on new ideas and integrate them into their own cooking life. The recipes are clearly explained and the techniques are completely accessible to any cook. Those who don't like new things or who hate exotic spice mixes may find the recipes to feel strange. Still, anyone who wants to be reminded about how food, cooking, and eating can serve to bind us together is likely to find this book a source of inspiration.

I'm not at all familiar with most African cuisine except North African and Ethiopian; I purchased this book hoping to find some good recipes for Ethiopian dishes. I was pleased to find that not only does it contain what I was looking for, but there's a ton of other wonderfully spicy, tangy, and flavorful dishes to try from other regions and countries of Africa. I've been looking for a good recipe for niter qibe, the spiced clarified butter that's the basis of so many Ethiopian dishes, and this book contains an awesome recipe--now I always have a tupperware in my fridge ready to use. There's also an injera recipe that doesn't require 2 days of fermentation, but uses yogurt and club soda to achieve the signature spongy texture--I tried it out and got great results! These recipes are big on spice and bold flavors, so it's good if you have a place where you can buy spices in bulk and invest in a coffee grinder that you can use for grinding whole spices (just don't use it for coffee too, like I found out one time, the hard way!). Some favorites in our house include: harissa-roasted turkey breast, jerk chicken, spicy okra salad, Ethiopian beef stew (tibs), and Tanzanian fish stew.Since the dishes are so reliant on spices and spice mixtures, I like that these are situated in the beginning of the book, rather than listed at the end. It's a minor stylistic thing, I'll admit, but I think it's better positioning. Most of the recipes are accompanied by helpful photos that give you an approximation of how the dish should look--I greatly appreciate this, especially when trying out an unfamiliar cuisine or technique. Some cookbooks read more like a National Geographic issue than a proper cookbook, letting the photography of scenery and people dominate at the expense and space of the recipes. But in this book, the photographs are a visual supplement and give you a glimpse of the scenery, people, and culture of the areas highlighted in the book.
