I am 66, an RN, former psych nurse, didn't think I needed to know much about marijuana. Never used it before. With 3 chronic conditions, I've always looked for safer alternatives to pharmaceuticals. This book is eye-opening abt the twisted history of prohibition and the latest scientific research that can make life so much easier for those with autoimmune and neurological disorders, acute & chronic. The stigma that has been perpetuated by politicians, law enforcers - esp the DEA, the government are so easily refuted by science. Science continues to be hidden, but it is exploding.Many people associate it with counter culture. It holds so much more promise beyond that. I am angry that I am this old and am in the field of medicine but only now am finding this information. I think of so many people who could have relief and better health. I am furious at the political machinations that have kept the truth from the public and apparently the president and people who make drug laws. There needs to be a paradigm shift where science reigns. Older people in particular have the most to benefit from its use because they are usually the ones with several chronic diseases and pain. I think AARP needs to make the information known to their members.If you are a parent, you need to read this book to keep up and inform your kids, rather than having a knee jerk reaction. I've told my kids I wish I'd had this info when they were young. It is important to get perspective when our society is steeped in alcohol use that causes diseases and kills. All proceeds of the book go toward medical cannabis research.
Here is another must have book for the medical cannabis user as well as the recreational cannabis user too. Its is very informative and well written. Knowledge is power and this is a great book for the cannabis advocate to help persuade those that don't understand the potential of cannabis. As someone who suffers from a chronic medical condition, I purchased this book to educate myself on the potential of cannabis and its components. This book gives a great picture of the current climate, and Dr. Holland compiles chapters from all kinds of authors and experts on the varying uses of this plant.I have to say, after reading the book, I can't find any logical reason that cannabis prohibition exists in this country. I, unfortunately, live in a state where I do not have medical access to this plant, so I won't be able to see if CBD or other components will help my condition. I'm hoping some day the regulatory environment will change and ALL adults who want to see if they can better their lives with cannabis will be give the opportunity to do so. The "stoner" stigma needs to go away. Those who have a financial agenda to keep prohibition alive and well in this country need to be exposed for who they are and stop hiding behind PACC's and lobbyists. Dr. Holland points out the hypocrisy of the DEA having cannabis on Schedule I while owning a patent on the benefit of CBD in healing and stoping trauma to nerves. How can that be? The federal government says there is no medical use for cannabis, but it has a patent on a medical use of cannabis??? Huh?Stop locking people up for using a harmless plant. Give patients access to their medicine. Stop demonizing something that no one has ever overdosed on. Alcohol and cigarettes have killed more people and ruined more lives than any other drugs in our culture, yet you don't see any politicians railing against those drugs.This is a wonderfully compiled book by Dr. Holland, and no matter where you are on the use of cannabis in the world you should read this book to educate yourself either way.
This is a real eye opener only it is dated in some respects. Many changes have occurred since 2010. It should be updated. The most interesting aspect for me is the medical potential of cannabis. Laws should be changed at the federal level in the USA and research should be conducted. The worst thing about cannabis is that it is against the law in most places. The legal ramifications far outweigh the possible benefits for most people. This is very sad.
Wow, very in depth book. I'd recommend for people who are on the fence, against, or for cannabis. Although obviously biased(Most literature is by nature, biased.), it is still a fact based book that you will keep going back to for information.
Good Book. For some of Us that have been living in the darkness regards any knowledge of anything that has to do with Cannabis, it is a fresh breeze of understanding it and begin to have an open mind, with trust that something good is going to come out of this grey and ugly past.
It would have been nice if the item info had mentioned this book is copyrighted in 2010! I wouldn’t have spent the money had I know how horribly outdated this book is. It was written before cannabis was legalized anywhere. There’s a lot of inaccurate info in the book.
