My Minecraft fan is only 5 so many of the activities in the book require more knowledge of Minecraft details (such is needed to complete things like crossword puzzles). There are also word searches so I would recommend this book for probably the 8-10 age group. We have still be able to do some fun activities like mazes in the book.

My 7yo son loved it! Tha activities are great for ages 5-9 approx and great for both readers and begginners.

This is a quality product, because many of the activities actually require real thinking to figure out, such as some math related problems that require more than a simple add or subtract; you have to use deductive reasoning to get the answer. The activities are all very centered around the minecraft series, so the child would need to be familiar with the series to do the activities. Would highly recommend this for minecraft lovers who can use some real thinking and fun activities!

When I purchase items for my grandchildren, I always try to include something to keep their minds busy. Since my grandson is into Mindcraft I thought this would be the perfect little something for him. I was disappointed and he was delighted.

Super cool. Definitely need to make sure your kids play on survival with some of the activities because they won’t know the answers if they only play creative. Otherwise, the kids loved them on the 5 hour drive to the beach.

My little one is obsessed with Minecraft so anything that has to do with it she’s all for. This helps to get her practicing on her print because to her she’s doing Minecraft work. The illustrations are nice.. the paper a nice texture.

Great activity book. My 6 yr. old son is obsessed with Minecraft and I bought this for a road trip. He finished over half the book the first day and loved it. Definitely happy with my purchase.

What a page turner! Once I picked up this book I couldn't put it down. It has everything you want in a good book to hold your interest. As the author seeks to unravel a centuries old family murder mystery we are led through a labyrinthian path of Italian bureaucracy as Helene seeks to disentangle years of documents that have not been open for over a century. Kudos to her for her persistence involving not one but two lengthy visits to Italy. During her journey you will meet all types of Italian characters both in this century and the 19th. And you will gain a new Italian vocabulary that will serve you well in your next visit to Italy. All the while you will anxiously await what the next page will bring. Helene's prose flows so effortlessly that you will hardly believe how fast her family saga comes to a conclusion. I can't wait to read her other books and you will too after you read this one!

I just finished Helene Stapinski’s Murder in Metera and am writing this review immediately, after wiping away my tears. What a great book. And yes, it’s a great story, but it’s so much more than that. This is my favorite kind of non-fiction, in which the central tale unfolds in tandem with the history that surrounded it, with creative imaginings – all beautifully written – weaved in. Helene Stapinski struck that perfect balance. While I discovered the truth of the tragic life of her great-great-grandmother, I not only I learned about life in Southern Italy in the late 1800s – which was never less than fascinating – but also about Stapinski’s own journey as a writer and a detective and as a mother searching for the truth behind the family murder while raising her kids. It captured me the way Jon Krakauer does especially in Into Thin Air. Every detail was compelling in Murder In Metera, the way fish curing was compelling in The Perfect Storm. I sped through this book. I was surprised at every turn, right to the very end, when I was flat out crying. Stapinski’s writing had me laughing most of the way through even though the details of the story are mostly sad. She writes like she’s telling the story out loud, maybe to her children, the way the story had been passed down to her (and lost in the process!), with all the colloquialisms and sayings from Southern Italy to Jersey City. I highly recommend Murder in Metera.

Many big differences really, beginning with the author's passion and the wonderful characters, the holy and unholy places, the excellent local food and the beautiful scenery. This is a first person adventure that takes the author from Jersey City to Siena, to Brooklyn, and then, most tellingly, back to Italy, to the deep southern Italian province of Basilicata.Remote and picturesque Matera, Bernalda and Pisticci hold secrets they are reluctant to reveal. The author returns again and again; she is determined and persistant, so much so that we become parties to her quest, learning history going back to the Greeks, who colonized the area centuries earlier, to the impoverished citizens and their oppressers who followed, to the present day, where, in many ways, little has changed. Language barriers are overcome, the reticence of the locals is breached, family connections are raveled and unraveled, and the warm comradery of those who join the author in her quest is rewarded, but only after a great many surprises. You will be fortunate, as I was, to go along for the ride.

The author describes her view of her mother’s family, a mindset of an American girl living in New Jersey during the 1960s and looking back to Italy through Ellis Island. She always believed her great-great grandmother, Vita Gallitelli, had murdered someone in southern Italy before immigrating to America. As Helen matured and mothered her own children, she worried that somehow the murdering gene might come out again some unlucky day. So, she decided that instead of sitting around worrying about the potential danger, she should try to look directly at the evil, find out the details, and then she might know better what she was up against.Mind you, this was not her deciding to get on her computer, become a member of a genealogy site, and discover what she could from the comfort of her American home. She had bigger plans and made bigger sacrifices. She traveled, not once but twice, to the very towns in Italy where her ancestors had lived. She took time, overcame obstacles which would have stopped others, and spent a lot of time looking at any paper files she could find with the help of Italian researchers, so that she could really know what had transpired and why her Vita had left Italy.And for all of that, she did find a lot more information. She discovered the abject poverty her great-great grandmother was born into, and the hopeless situation in which people of her class found themselves. She discovered that Vita Gallitelli had indeed married Francesco Vena; but that Francesco was not her great-great grandfather because HE was spending a miserable sentence in prison because of the murder HE had committed, all because of stealing pears. Vita and Francesco had a son who died, but Vita had several other children when her husband lay in jail, due to being another man’s mistress (her way of surviving). The trip to America came many years later when one of the oldest boys had already made a place for Vita and a younger son and a younger daughter. Vita left her benefactor and made a very difficult Atlantic voyage, losing her 7-year-old daughter while in transit. Finally, the author learned of the struggles Vita and her two surviving boys has faced in the melting pot of America, with Vita dying in 1915, in her sixties, a victim of the annual “night of mischief” when a boy had hit her head with a sock stuffed with rocks.

I thoroughly enjoyed this autobiography by Charlie Chaplin in his own words. It's an interesting and intriguing read about his life from his own perspective and first-hand knowledge of events that you cannot get from any biography. With him being a film maker, his writing style keeps you very interested and engrossed from beginning to finish. He truly lived a remarkable life. I love his very matter of fact way of presenting the events in his life. It definitely puts everything that happened to him in perspective.[SPOILER ALERT!]I especially loved reading the parts about him going unrecognized dressed as himself. He was humbled when he first found out how popular he truly was. He went unrecognized on a train until it became known he was on the train. He was even the last in line for the washroom and waited in line like everyone else. There was another time when he was in NY that a cab driver drove him around all night looking for a hotel. He was trying to avoid people at his hotel but all the hotels were full. The cab driver, not recognizing him, invited him to stay with him and his family. Charlie hesitated but decided to trust him. The cab driver and his family were very surprised and happy to have him stay there as their guest. The accommodations were humble but better than what he had as a boy in London so he didn't complain.As for the scandal in his life, he talks about it in a very matter of fact way. Even he admitted he wasn't a total angel. However, hearing it from his side, shame on the US press, legal system, and government for the way they treated him. He did not deserve that! With his first 2 divorces, his young naive wives were manipulated by greedy lawyers who just saw dollar signs. So they dragged his name through the mud and scandalized the whole thing to get as much out of him as they could. The Joan Barry trial and family court hearings were used by the FBI to try to tarnish his name further. He was thankfully cleared of all criminal charges. However, in family court, he wasn't so lucky. Blood tests proved he wasn't the father of Joan Barry's child; but they were inadmissible in court at that time. Therefore, with circumstantial evidence alone, he was ruled as the father and had to pay child support. Unbelievable! Today Joan Barry would have had stalking and harassment charges brought against her. What a nut!The Communist accusations were a huge miscarriage of justice. He was not a Communist aka enemy of the US. If he had joined a US political party, I believe he would have been a Liberal Democrat. He may have associated with Communists, but that's guilt by association. He had fans and friends who were Communists before it was considered a dirty word. And he didn't believe in snubbing them when it did become a dirty word. Charlie was a humanitarian. Nothing more! He wanted to help people and help make the world a better place by pulling down barriers. He promoted peace and pointed out the evils in this world to try to get people thinking about them. His hope was perhaps they would see the evils and do something to change things for the better. Nothing wrong with that. His films are still relevant today because they are about human nature. The reason they are so hilarious is because there is so much truth in them, even today. As he put it (paraphrasing), the only thing he was guilty of was being a nonconformist. Amen to that! He was a rebel. I admire that about him because I'm a bit of a rebel myself. It took a lot of courage for him to speak the truth.I'm just glad he was finally vindicated of all of this 20 years after he left the US. He received a lifetime achievement Academy Award in 1972 and was invited to the US to receive that award. However, this autobiography was written prior to that happening. Also, when the FBI files were released to the public 50 years later, there was no evidence found that proved he was a Communist either. Despite this, it just saddens and infuriates me that he was treated so poorly. Just imagine how many more films he might have made if he hadn't gone through all that. His three films after The Great Dictator were either boycotted or banned in the US for years. They are real gems! Great films that I am so glad I had the opportunity to watch and own copies of them.After reading about his near death experiences, he definitely had someone looking out for him. He had a sixth sense about his safety, even as a child, and had some near misses. That explains why he was an agnostic. With the experiences he had, he had to believe there was a higher power out there. He was saved, I believe, because he had a purpose. His movies speak for themselves in this case. He spoke the truth and gave laughter and hope when there was none.He was not only a great comedian, but also a great visionary and artist who had the courage to pave his own path and not conform to society's norms. Because of this, his movies will remain relevant for many years to come.

The first part of his youth was interesting and Great THEN something happened. The personality of the book just shuts DOWN. Chapter upon chapter reads like a diary of meetings and dinners and luncheons. Traveling and frustration to come up with a new movie. When it came to any personal Connections Zilch !! Paulet whom he married got 2 sentences on their break up. The others in his life got detailed descriptions of their teeth. A whole third of the book was his Political feelings and what he did with them. I have Not finished this very long and boring book. I am up to the last wife. I hope it ends with more Joy and much Less humdrum stuff I could have read on the Internet. Don't bother ! The Movie was so good with Robert Downey Jr. Invest in THAT !!!!

What a wonderful book! I believe it was the first book to clarify his birth place (Walworth London England) and that Charles Spencer Chaplin was his real name. There were crazy rumors that he was born in France or that he was Jewish and that he actually had an outlandish foreign name. I think that this book is vital for anyone who likes Charlie Chaplin, or just old Hollywood in general. After all Chaplin was the most famous man on earth in the early 1900's. I also think that this book is sorely underrated, most likely because there are so many hundreds of books written about him, that his autobiography seems like just a minor step. But what's better than hearing his own account, own words and thoughts about his own life? No one knows him better than himself, and this book is definitely vital for any Chaplin lover.

After seeing the movie Chaplin (which was a superb movie), I decided to purchase this autobiography of Charlie Chaplin. Before I purchased this book, I had considered other books about Charlie Chaplin but they were not written by Charlie Chaplin. This book is warm and honest and I enjoyed it so much, it was hard to put it down.This is a beautifully done autobiography of of a very special man Charlie Chaplin.

Fascinating to learn about his childhood. Although his childhood takes up slightly more than one third of the book I could not put the book down. He explains his process for writing, directing, producing, composing, etc.. A little too much name dropping, but I guess he had the right to be so proud of keeping company with Einstein, Churchill, Kings, etc. I now realize that many classic comedy routines actually came from Chaplin, for example the candy assembly line where Lucy couldn't keep up. That came from Chaplin. In all an amazing read.

How could it not be compelling to learn what a world-renowned genius entertainer has to say about himself? One does not need to take every word at face value in order to appreciate Chaplin's vivid writing and extraordinary rags to riches story - and well-deserved riches they were. On finishing the book I immediately read the Wicki biography and while there are many ugly details to his life, he was candid enough in his autobiography and was wise not to stuff it with every unpleasant incident and frenetic headline.How remarkable it is that he and his brother overcame their Dickensian childhood. He brings you into the story so well that it's a great relief to see him emerge into a life of material well-being and recognition as a great artist, bringing joy and laughter to millions all over the world. I'm moved to see his films all over again.

First, I'll start with what I liked about this book. The hard cover design and inside silhouettes on each page are very appealing and vintage-looking. Loved that part! That was it. I did not care for the content of the quotes. Many of the quotes are modern-day quotes, certainly not old west, as the book's title implies! Joan Rivers? Come on! Also, this book has some off-color content not suitable for placing out at a western party geared toward children, as was my intention. What to do with it now? I read it in a half hour. I can't gift it, because of off-color humor I don't want associated with me. The author certainly did not do his historical research! There would have been ample, authentic sources to compile a book such as this. That is what is so disappointing! Don't waste your money like I did!

This review applies specifically to the J. R. Pole edition of The Federalist, published by Hackett. Considering the thorough notes and fine introduction, this should be the preferred edition of The Federalist for the student and general reader. Sadly, I have found, within the first fifteen pages, an unacceptable number of errors in editing or proofreading. Assuming this rate of errors is representative of the text as a whole, it cannot be relied on as the primary edition for studying this important historical work. If you can afford several editions, by all means acquire the Pole edition for its helpful notes, but I would recommend the standard Cooke edition (from Wesleyan U. Press), the Gideon edition (from Liberty Fund), or the inexpensive Signet edition for the text itself.Here are examples of the errors:On p. xlii, the first essay is incorrectly attributed to John Jay, rather than Alexander Hamilton.On pages 4 and 15, footnotes contain inaccurate cross-references to other notes.Most serious is an apparently systematic editing problem with the text itself. The intention of the Pole edition is to present the so-called "McClean" text, which contained revisions (by the authors) to the original newspaper versions of the essays. However, these revisions are inconsistently incorporated in the Pole edition. For example, in the newspaper text of the third essay, a series of sub-arguments is set forth in separate paragraphs that each begin with the word "Because." In the McClean text, a new sentence was added to indicate that a list of reasons follows, and the word "Because" was omitted from the beginning of each paragraph in the list. But in the Pole edition, one of the paragraphs is not revised at all (the word "Because" still appears), and another is incompletely revised, so that it begins incorrectly with the words "If even if the governing party . . ." rather than "If even the governing party . . ." All this may sound arcane, but, besides being technically inaccurate, it makes the argument confusing and ungrammatical where it is not so, in a correct text of either the newspaper or the McClean versions. I should note that the text was apparently provided by the Intelex Corporation, not prepared by Professor Pole himself.

Who couldn't love a little penguin with a big dream? Orville does not disappoint. This is a unique, sweet, and lively story that encourages individuality and at the same time demonstrates the importance of community. The illustrations are so entertaining and support the story well for young readers. All this and a penguin who strives to be an astronaut...what are you waiting for? Congratulations to the author and to Orville on a smash hit!

My 2 yr. old grandson was ALL about penguins this Christmas, so I was intrigued when I found this highly-rated board book title, I "peeked inside" and was delighted by the illustrations, so I took a chance that it would be a sweet book about how little problems can seem big until you're reminded that "things aren't so bad after all..." Well, it started out cute and funny - with the (whiny) penguin going on and on about all the things that were bothering him - and when read with the right intonation, little kids will find it sort of silly and exaggerated - I mean toddlers are well known for waffling minute-by-minute between giddy bliss and dramatic despair. But the entire storyline comes to a record-scratch halt when this wise walrus just appears out of nowhere and gives this giant soliloquy (for an ENTIRE page, which for a 2 yr. old is a REALLY long paragraph -he loses interest if I don't read it fast with edits), essentially reminding penguin "how things aren't really that bad, and he should appreciate the beauty of the world, and that he really DOES like all the things he's complaining about, etc." And that's that. That's literally the end of the whining - or is it?? Somehow, penguin can only muster a couple of now-positive observations before he reverts to complaining about how cold his beak is again on the last page! I think the story had a lot of potential, but there's a missed opportunity here... the author could've taken a little more gradual path back to penguin's mood equilibrium (instead of just summarily dismissing penguin's complaints with one fell swoop of walrus wisdom). Maybe penguin could've been reminded of how lovely the mountain air feels when he breathes it in, or how the moonlight shines off those frigid icebergs, etc. a little bit at a time from different characters he encounters (like make him ponder a different perspective?) -- and help him find his OWN way back to happiness/satisfaction with his world. But this is a long way to say, I found the book entertaining up until a point - then I kinda wanted to rewrite the ending. Maybe older kids will find it snarky, but for the 2-3 yr. old - it's just OK.

I love the premise of this story. Orville wants to be able to do big things just like the other animals in the zoo. But no one believes he can reach his dream because he's so small. With determination and a great plan, he'll show them he can do it and in the process make closer friendships. I love the puns and word play in this story also. My kids find it so endearing and funny - a great combination!

My 5 yo will never look at 2 liter cokes the same way again thanks to Orville’s ingenuity! Excited to have this in our picture book library as it’s one we’ll read again and again.

Poor Orville, stuck in the land of lame adventures in his quiet little corner of the zoo. How he longs to have BIG ADVENTURE like his much bigger zoo-mates. Determined to prove that his dream to fly to the moon is not a moon flop Orville does a few science experiments and voila! the next thing he knows he's on the moon. But when he discovers that his friends believed in him the whole time, Orville realizes that the best thing about adventures is sharing them with others. Gorgeous illustrations of the zoo and the moon plus fun snappy writing make this a book that will be enjoyed over and over again in our house

John C. H. Spence, Regents' Professor of Physics, Arizona State UniversityJohn C. H. Spence is Regents' Professor of Physics at Arizona State University with a joint appointment at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. He completed a PhD in Physics at Melbourne University in Australia, followed by postdoctoral work in Materials Science at Oxford University, UK. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, of the Institute of Physics, of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and of Churchill College Cambridge, UK. He is a recent co-editor of Acta Crystallographica and served on the editorial board of Reports on Progress in Physics. He has served on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Molecular Foundry and the Advanced Light Source at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the DOE's BESAC committee. He has been awarded the Burton Medal and the Distinguished Scientist Award of the Microscopy Society of America, and the Buerger Medal of the American Crystallographic Association.
