I lived in NYC /Westchester / Nassau County during this time. The book brought back memories and gave me a better understanding of that era as well as my life I found the book easy to read as well as entertaining. The author gets to the point of each topic. I found the book humorous. Most of all, what I thought was going on with NYC wasn't what was really going on. Things weren't what I thought they were. Ia a sense this book is a catharsis A must read !

"Fun City" was a great book about New York in the late 60's. The book threads through the Championship seasons of the Jets, Mets and Knicks as well as the mayorship of John Lindsay. Highly recommended

even though I was a teenager during this time and lived through it, I do not remember alot of what went on during the early sixties. very informative and entertaining. I am a yankee fan but never a jets or ny giant fan.

Brought me back to those days. Good informative account of the 60's and 70's in NYC sports and politics. Enjoyed it.

I was a very young child, but I remember women everywhere going crazy over Joe Namath. I guess this book brought back much of my youth.

"Fun City" ends with a great quote from famed New York writer Jimmy Breslin from 1969, "When you live in fires and funerals and strikes and rats and crowds and people screaming in the night, sports is the only thing that makes any sense."Following the rise of liberal Republican mayor John Lindsay, Alabama star QB Joe Namath landing with the upstart Jets of the AFL, Tom Seaver and the Mets, and the rise of New York Knicks, culminating with all three of those franchises winning a championship in an 18-month period of of January, 1969 to mid-1970, "Fun City" provides a fascinating look at the anti-establishment ethos of the mid to late 1960s in New York.The New York football Giants were in decline in the same period, as were the Yankees, who were eventually sold to "corporate" CBS. And after the lengthy Robert Wagner Mayoral era, John Lindsay, a blueblood Upper East side councilman, won the New York mayoral election in 1965. New York was indeed ready for "fun."The book transports the reader back to these heady days of New York City from Namath's fur coat on the sidelines and his nightclubbing antics to Lindsay's unpreparedness for a monster snowstorm to strikes and protests.The reader learns of the many knee surgeries of Namath before and during his Jets career, how the Mets and Shea Stadium rose from the departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the Knicks latest incarnation of Madison Square Garden at 50th and 8th that opened in 1968. We hear of the passion of the new Mets fans from sportswriter Robert Lipsyte: "...The Metophile is a dreamer. He believes that one day he will punch that arrogant foreman at the plant square on his fat nose; that he will get the last word with his foie; that he will win the Irish sweepstakes; that the Mets will start a winning streak.." And we see the courage of Joe Namath in the 1968 AFL Championship game again, fighting off hits from Ben Davidson and Ike Lassiter, and a concussion, to propel his team to victory into Super Bowl III, perhaps the greatest sports upset ever.But the book is not just about the teams and their quests for championships; it's about the change in the city (and country) from massive societal change to the war in Vietnam. Yet this tale is all intertwined from Knicks players attending a "Moratorium Day" protest in Cincinnati on October 15, 1969,to Tom Seaver's arrival the same day to Shea Stadium, where he was informed by fellow pitcher Tug McGraw that some of Seaver's comments were sensationalized on a related pamphlet being handed outside the stadium. (Seaver nevertheless put the distraction aside to pitch a 10-inning complete game victory in Game 4 of the World Series that day, giving his team a 3-1 lead.)My own novel, "The Naive Guys," concludes in the New York of June, 1994, with both the hockey Rangers and basketball Knicks striving for championships. As great as that time was, Deveney's world seems a hell of a lot more fun:-)"Fun City," so named for Lindsay's description of the City, is an excellent, fun, exhilarating read. It is well worth the investment of your time for a magical trip back to the New York of the past, but not long past. Perhaps Mr. Deveney will have to work on a sequel of sorts in the mid teens of the 2010s?

Two stories and several half-stories do not make a connected book. Some interesting anecdotes but no real unified tale. I expected moreThe two stories are a decent story about John Lindsay and his mayoralty's 1st term, how he got the job and what he tried to do. The other is about the Jets in the mid-60's during the Werblin era. Half-stories are of the Knicks and the Mets.But it wasn't the sports teams that got Lindsay re-elected, it was the lack of any real opposition and white gratitude that there were no major NY riots in the 60s. Deveney pretty much admits that.I grew up in that era too, affected by the massive teacher's strike in Fall, 1968.

Great book. A true story of the importance of faith in God which can help overcome the gravest of evils and puts dealing with difficulties and troubles in perspective. He was true to God's command to love your enemies even after 23 years of hardship and persecution.Looking forward to reading the other book "He Leadeth Me".

I read this a month ago and am still reflecting on it. I am left with the impression that his strong character, his ability to work hard and his humility were as important as his faith in surviving his epic struggle and deprivations. A captor told him "I do not know why you are still alive." He was witness to massive upheaval, injustice and suffering. He suffered with millions of others. He gave what he could: spiritual guidance/solace, the example of perseverance and friendship. Remarkably, not bitter. A fascinating life.

This book was a fascinating account of an American's years in solitary confinement and Siberian slave labor camps. The author's perseverance and trust in God is compelling. Any time I reflect back on the book, I feel grateful for the many comforts I enjoy. This is a sure-fire cure to complaining!

This was a wonderful read. Inspiring moments. I couldn't put it down. Amazing in that he was able to withstand and live all those years in prison, gulag hard labor in Siberian winters, and throughout his ordeal he never lost his faith in God.

An amazing biography about an amazing man, who will one day be canonized. A great book for anyone interested, and all should be interested, in drawing closer to God and receive the unshakable peace that can only come from Him.

I thought this was going to show the interiors. Should have read the description better.

This book is filled with black and white photos (almost every page) of farm building, homes, barns of the English countryside. There are several color photos as well.Mostly it outlines building materials and methods of construction. It might sound dry, but it is very interesting, showing the history of rural architecture.Some history of English agriculture is also included. If you want to learn more about the English countryside and the cottages and farmhouses you won't be disappointed.

I absolutely love this book... Jade has done an outstanding job of drawing the gore and horror that makes this book great! Absolutely not a book for the squeamish .....but for the rest of us .....let the red crayons color! This book is a must have for your gore library so buy it today!

These images are in black and white on bleed-proof paper. The book has two of each image; and if you order through Amazon, you get access to a pdf of the coloring book. On to the images:-My favorite is one of vampires around a blood dispenser (water cooler dispensing A+).-Kids playing soccer with a severed head.-Jenga with severed fingers.-Dia de los Muertos themes-Grocery shopping, a head of lettuce here, a human head there...It's a fantastic coloring book. Enjoy!

Another Jade Summer book with a macabre theme but it's the detail and realism of the settings in the drawing style that make this book interesting. Not as many pages as some adult coloring books out there but the settings and the idea that horror could be an everyday thing for some people- even in an explicit stomach turning way is what makes this book really stand out. With the current zombie craze still going in 2017 would be surprised if this didn't sell alot of copies; am glad this book doesn't seem to be edited down for less horror like one of the other Jade Summer books- since these coloring books are meant for grown people anyway- and horror can be seen just by flipping the tv remote (both real and fictional) so no need to mute the detail in a horror coloring book. This book does a fine job of holding a monster fans interest. Face your fears, color on. Recommend you stock on for reds and greys for this book.

Cons:Okay so now that I read the description it does say that there are 15 pictures x2. So 30 pages to color but it’s just copies of the first 15 pictures. Which was pretty disappointing because the book feels pretty thick.HOWEVER, shame on me for not reading the whole description.Pros:The backs of the pages are black so you really see your colors turn out very vividly.Plus you could use markers and wouldn’t have to worry about the back side looking all blotchy. Or you could even use the back of the paper to draw on with white pencils.So, over all still a good coloring book and it’s really not a bad price. Just disappointed about the duplicate pictures.

I absolutely love this coloring book! Jade Summer provides great designs to inspire you to do your worst--with blood, rotting flesh, severed limbs, and beautiful characters. I enjoy finding the horror element in every day life, such as a page where vampires are hanging around the office blood dispenser, severed limbs in a claw machine, or bodies hanging in trees while a girl swings underneath them. This is GREAT and was EXACTLY what I was looking for. It comes with TWO copies of each illustration, which I didn't realize that I needed. I had often finished a coloring page and found myself wondering if it would have been better if I did it in a different way instead. Now, I can redo the page and see which option is the best. I have not been able to put the book down for more than a day. It's kind of addicting. I will be purchasing more from Jade Summer. I already have several books on my wish list, and you should too!

Whoever came up with all the designs for this book really has a great understanding of what is horror, gore, and the macabre. The pictures are amazingly detailed, and I found some so gory, that it could make some queasy. This is an excellent coloring book to have in your collection if you are looking for something different, and certainly in a horror theme. As is the case with Jade Summer's coloring book, each picture is on its own page and has a black backing so you can use whatever coloring medium you prefer without bleed thru. Also, you get 2 copies of each picture so you can color each differently or use a different medium for the second copy.

These books are really detailed and fun to work with! I like these types of coloring books more than the typical adult coloring books of scenery and flowers or animals, because you get to kind of make up your own story or world as you color, and get to color in more "realistic things." Jade created a very macabre world in this Everyday Horror book, but it's super appropriate for this world. It'll take me a while to get through it as well! My only recommendation for other people is to put something hard (like a folder) underneath whatever page it is you're coloring because if you color with a harder hand like I do, the "marks" will transfer onto the other page.

Excellent designs. Printed on one side, pages are black on the back. 15 different designs with a duplicate of each. Well constructed. There's a digital copy available from the publisher when you purchase, which is awesome.*This book has about 10 less designs than the normal Jade Summers coloring book. Still a good value, but I wanted more designs.

I am a big fan of the Jade Summer coloring books. I started my coloring journey with these books, and I am trying to collect what I can. If you enjoy coloring horror pictures, this book is for you. I don’t think it is for me at the moment, which is why I gave it 4 stars. Who knows? Maybe my taste will change sometime down the line. This coloring book is of the same good quality as the others. You get the pictures twice, one-sided, with a black background. I have used most mediums, except for any type of paints, and all have worked well.

I enjoyed this book and the videos (blu-ray sold separately) very very much! I had already seen some of the videos via YouTube but watched them again as I read the accompanying chapter in the book. The additional info regarding the experience along with relevant information on the stinging creature was easily enough to rate this 5 stars. Coyote's experience is something that brought out the child in my 60+ year old body.All that said, I did not enjoy watching Coyote writing in pain; only a sicko would truly enjoy anothers pain. I did find an incredibly strong curiousity to learn more and through Coyote see what it would be like if I could find the courage to try it myself. Personally, I would not let the Executioner Wasp sting me for anything less than $1,000,000 dollars! Wow!

A nice book about the stings also good deatl on how painful they are. Oh and the book comes with the executioner wasp sting

Absolutely thrilled with this book! It adds so much to his videos! The colorful pictures and illustrations really appeal to the eye, and when combined with Coyote’s special brand of storytelling, make this a book you just don’t want to put down!

I love the quality of the book and the full color pages. I got this as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old son, and I am not disappointed-definitely gift quality.

My 6 year old son loves his youtube channel. So we were excited when the book came out. I read it to him and he loves it. Talks about all the insects and facts about them he learned. I know this is a book he will want to read over and over.

What a great book. Got this for my kid. She loves it. What I like is that everything is in full color. Such a complete reading experience. There are only 11 chapters in the book.

My grandson loved it.

Good book I got it for my daughter who is a fan of Mr. Peterson. I am disappointed though that it did not come with the executioner wasp sting. I know she would be too when she opens this gift on Christmas morning :(
