As I progress through life, and accept that I'm not young any more, I also realize that the younger generations do not ingest books the way I do. If you look at the reviews for this book, especially at the 1 and 2 star ratings, you'll find a deplorable pattern. "It was too slow." No, you're not considering what you're reading. "The author is a racist." Definitely no, he's almost drawing a caricature of them to shine a great big spotlight on facism and bigotry in order to persuade the audience of just how evil these things are. "The ending was too abrupt." or "He obviously meant to write a sequel." No and no. After many thousands of words placed in thought provoking ways, the author challenges the audience to decide what the story means. And gives us license to pick the ending that we think fits the best.This story was written in the 60s, and is set then as well. What if the Axis won World War II is the major premise behind the setting. The conflicts highlight the extreme to which Japanese and German cultures could have gone, and the possible effects of living in a land under the control of one, and strongly influenced by the other. Imagine the Japanese concept of place, mixing with facist bigotry, overlaid on oppressed Americans living in a totalitarian world. PKD thoroughly denounces facism, bigotry and xenophobia.But the story is more than that. The plot is hidden from the reader as we see events from several points of view. And the narration ends with barely a paragraph of denouement. If you are not driven to contemplation about the meaning of life or the nature of reality by this work, you should read it again, slowly.

I was putting off buying this due to it having reviews like "confusing ending" however when watched the series on Amazon I was amazed and stunned at the same time. And i figured with all books and movies/tv adaptations the book is always better.We always see the commercials on tv for the what 'ifs' about history what if the Nazis won the war whats if World War II ended entirely different. We don't know for sure how this would actually have turned out but PKD offers some amazing insight to what it would have been like.Each character has there own unique persona and unique motives for what they are really out to get. Every character is masterfully developed. PKD doesn't just focus on the character's PKD is able to fully capture you imagination and create a beautifully horrid reality inside your mind as you read.This is one of the books that you will read reread and still be wondering about what truly happened or what the book was really about. One of the most complex and inciting books I have read and loved so deeply in a long time. Overall if you like alternative-history or books with complex backgrounds and amazing story's you should be sure to read this.

One of the greatest novels of th 20th century. I've been a PKD fan since the early 1980's, obsessively collecting his work, most of which at the time was out of print. It's safe to say that no person did more to shape my intellectual development as a teenager than Philip K. Dick. I am forever in his debt.That said, TMitHC is a treasure. It distills a number of Dick's obsessions into a taut character study set against the backdrop of a world going even more mad. Each of the 6 'protagonists' here are searching for truth. Only a couple of them are capable of facing it dignity.As with all of Dick's best work the world-building is efficient and brilliant. I re-read this recently to prepare myself for watching the new serial, and was reminded of just how good Dick's prose is. The casual racism of Mr. Childan, the inner strength of Juliana, the coldness of Joe Cinnadella. But, it is Mr. Tagomi who owns this novel. He is one of Dick's finest characters, at once pragmatic and idealistic. Mature and naive. The living embodiment of the Tao.The ending matters both textually and thematically. It separates the characters into those who can face the reality of their world and those who cannot.For those looking into PKD for the first time I highly recommend these books over all of the others (in my order of preference):1) Ubik2) Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep3) The Man in the High Castle4) Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said5) The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch6) Clans of the Alphane Moon7) A Scanner Darkly8) Martian Time-Slip9) Dr. Bloodmoney10) The Transmigration of Timothy ArcherOthers like Time Out of Joint, The Game-Players of Titan, Now Wait for Last Year, The Penultimate Truth and Galactic Pot Healer are fine diversions, but the books above are essential. I had a strong reality with the author. I was an Armenian kid growing up in the suburbs of NYC during the 50’s and 60’s. I now live In Hackensack NJ the next town over from Teaneck. I really could relate. The second half of the book segues into the facts, timeline and the people involved in the horrific effort to wipe out all the Armenians. Very good read about a suppressed period of history. The reason for the suppression is also explained in a very human and passionate way.

I'm only about halfway through this riveting book. As a first generation Armenian American born of two parents who were Armenian, I can relate to quite a number of memories that the author writes about. My parents also spoke very little about their lives in Armenia, so I find this book to be compelling in helping me understand their thoughts.

Peter Balakian's memoir is memorable not only for its poetic and heart-moving prose, but for its movement from boyhood memories of a secure Armenian home to the unspeakable atrocities of the Armenian Genocide. From his keen and sensitive perspective we learn just how far away his gentle, peaceful home in New Jersey was from the Armenian home of his ancestral family where genocide was perpetrated by the Turks against the Armenians. And, yet, how close it remained--and remains forever--in the silent recesses of his family's lives. Even in his own life. The way Balakian creates a seamless narrative in the telling of his experience owes a lot to the sublime poetry of his prose. As a result we experience the forces of a protective, loving environment as well as the extremities of the most severe brutalities of the human condition.

Author has a talent for descriptive and humorous writing. Just started reading the book, and thoroughly enjoying it. Will give it as gifts to my Armenian friends who share a similar history. I can smell the baking choerag.

The story of a family's struggle and survival through a genocide which is still denied by many. Uplifting and heartbreaking, a chapter of history which deserves to be brought to light. This would make a wonderful short television series.

Excellent. Once I started to read, I couldn't put it down.Balakian's grandmother reminds me of my own. The experiences they had left wounds that never healed.

This is an amazing and poignant depiction of a typical Armenian family. The family could belong to anyone--it certainly could be mine. Without giving away the entire story, it is about genocide survivors who protect their children from the events of the genocide. Eventually, the stories are told and the truth is known, thereby changing the lives of the children. It is an emotionally difficult book to read, but is well worth it.

I have read these stories in the Bible many times and found this book to be a delight to read. I highly recommend this book especially if you want to add this to your devotional time.

This was an interesting read. Reading the Bible, unless you write down the timeline, it gets confusing trying to keep the kings of Israel and Judah straight in your mind. This little book helps, because it puts all that information together in a straight, simple line. Easier to understand the events in the lives of the kings.

Good condition. Great gift for a friend.

This book is a major overhaul of the earlier Digital Web book for Mage: The Ascension. It has lots of little detail-ey improvements over the first edition, and some nice thoughtful material about games in the web, and storytelling in general. I'm not sure I'd encourage anyone to buy it if they had the eariler edition, unless they're obsessed with running games in the Web. But a modern Mage game ought to have *some* Digital Web in it, and if you don't have any verion of this book, I highly reccomend it. Also hs plenty of cool terminology and saucy web culture tidbits, and an interesting piece of history on the "recent crash" of the Web.

This book is a beautiful exploration of sexuality -- realizing you may not identify how you thought, finding a new descriptor of your feelings, coming to terms with how it may make you think you're a freak or there's something wrong with you, and coming out. It's an important story for people of all ages who may be questioning their sexuality, and particularly so as it's one of the few books I've seen/read with not one, but two, asexual main characters. I'm thankful this book exists in the world, and I hope other queer kids find it and it helps them.

This book is really good. The romance is beautiful and adorable, the writing is great, the supernatural elements are simply...well, magical. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good supernatural story and likes adorable romance.

There is incredible magic in that.“I draped myself over her shoulders as her arms snaked around my waist. It felt safe in her embrace, and she still smelled like summer nights. This was acceptance, not of her but of myself. Our foreheads were so close we were breathing the same air. Whatever else you take away from WE AWAKEN by Calista Lynne, the fact is that love is freaking love, whether it’s sexual in nature or not, and ace darlings are DEFINITELY queer enough.As always, the first thing I need to mention are trigger warnings: acephobic language both internalized from the MC and verbalized from the MC’s best friend, also vivid descriptions of a fatality car accident, and taking oxycodone pills to sleep/due to depression, though not an intentional suicide attempt.Moving on! This #ownvoices asexual (and interracial) f/f romance between Victoria and her dreamy (literally LOL) Ashlinn was very sweet, I thought, and was really well woven in with Victoria’s grief and her still trying to strive to achieve her dreams while simultaneously feeling guilty about having a life after a severe loss in her family. I loved the images of the different dreams she entered and also how ballet was the one constant in her life, too. Add all the lovely details together and Lynne is definitely an author I will be looking forward to reading again!

i was very excited to read this book. there aren’t many books with asexual main characters. i’d heard conflicting things before starting, but i was excited nonetheless.unfortunately, i was quickly disappointed. i found this book very slow and boring - the plot was lacking. we awaken focuses so much on asexuality that it seems to forget how difficult victoria’s life is. her dad has died and her brother is in a coma, but hey lets forget that and throw in a dictionary definition of asexuality every few chapters. the book mainly focuses on sexuality over anything else, and i would’ve really enjoyed it if there were a more in depth look into asexuality rather than just brushing over it (something anyone can do with a couple google searches).another thing i had a problem with was the insta love. the characters are “in love” with each other by like their second (dream) meeting. honestly, it felt so unrealistic. not to mention, they seem to love each other because they’re both asexual rather than for their other qualities/interests.the world building was very weak in we awaken. by the end of it, i had so many unanswered questions about the dream things. there's this whole magical world that could've been explored, but it seems to have been forgotten entirely. not to mention the climax. it was such an easy way out of everything. it didn't make any sense because of the lack of world building and i didn't understand what was going on or how it worked.aside from that, i really did enjoy ashlinn’s character. i found her relatable and interesting. victoria felt very boring and flat. i mean, she loves ballet but it's never really shown as something she loves, just an afterthought to her personality.overall, the book felt very rushed but i enjoyed the use of asexuality because it's not something that's often used in books. i felt the book could've gone through another lot of editing to get the plot and writing a little better but it was still a decent read.

GED test 2017, 2016 and GED test premier 2017,They are the same. I have all 3 and there is no difference between them.Are very good books when you combine them with khan academy app videos.

I had been out of school since 2003. A series of unfortunate events led me to have to get my GED. I studied using this book for 4 months on my own time while working full time. I scheduled to take all 4 exams on the same day and wound up passing all of them at the "College Readiness" level or better. This book offers everything you need to pass. (Except the TI calculator. You will need to buy that separately).

This book had everything I needed to know for the test. Their online test setup is identical to the actual GED one. I passed all 4 tests first try and it took me about 3 weeks to study English, a month for math, 7 days social studies and 8 days science. Each time I finished a subject, I took the GED READY test online and then took the Kaplan practice test online. ( It will tell you how to access it when you get the book and register it online) Im also not a native English speaker so I had to translate a lot while studying. The book is simply fantastic!

It's a good study guide. I liked it because I didn't want the kids on the computer all the time. I wanted them to sit and work, focus and ask questions, as I was helping them get through it. Once they did most of the work off of the computer, there are more tests and videos for reinforcement that are on the site linked to their account so overall it was a great resource in my opinion, especially for the cost. If you are looking for a online experience , this isn't for you. The online part is minimal. but the videos are short and to the point good for the problems that they do go over. And, they relate to the problems in the book, but just some of them, the harder concepts.Also, there are solutions to all the problems in the book which is great! I cut off the back of the book where all the solutions are so they could only use them when they tried the problems themselves. Then, they could see what they did wrong and fix it.For a teaching situation, or a self motivated student, I think this is an excellent reference book to study from. I am a teacher, so the opinion you're getting is from that perspective. Item came quickly and was in perfect condition. Overall smooth transaction and was happy with the purchase. The book itself is not all it was hoped to be. It does not prepare you properly for the tests despite being the 2017 edition. My husband studied using this book and completed all of the practice tests for the subject he was testing for. When he went to take the test he said it seemed he had studied for the wrong test based on the actual questions on the GED test itself. He did not feel adequately prepared using what this book offered him. I would suggest using this as a supplemental study guide at best, but look into additional study guides or information out there before actually testing.

Best book on the market for passing all four GED tests. My students swear by it and it really helps them to learn what they need for the test.

My wife was prepping for the GED and she said it really helped get her ready for the test. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that there was several questions that I felt were a little confusion in how they were worded, but maybe that is how they are worded on the test also.

I was impresseed that this book is a study guide for all of the 2017 GED exams. I am using this book in my current GED class.
