I say why - as all the diagrams - including front cover are not visible - there is merely a static icon.It is a pity that Amazon do not check the formatting before having these books available as ebooks for the Kindle Cloud Reader.I have to be honest - of all books I have on Cloud Reader this is what I call the exception - at times I had other book not showing the front cover - but I can live with that - as I am interested in the contents!!I have to point out that I am currently using Chrome Browser whilst on Safari browser the images are all visible. If I use the Kindle downloaded reader the images are visible also, so apart from these drawbacks the book is an excellent introduction to 802.11 Wireless Lan.

Very happy with the content and coverage this book provides for 802.11. Provides details for things glossed over by other texts.

The wireless 802.11 book I recently purchased helped me out with my studies and future work. It is a great resource for wireless.

The author does not waist words when explaining the various 802.11 features. Extremely dry and boring... Kudos to the person who can read this book and absorb the information. I felt like I was reading an RFC.

I recently read the title "802.11 Wireless LAN Fundamentals" by Pejman Roshan and Jonathan Leary. ISBN: 1587050773. You've heard the saying that good things come in small packages. Well, this title reinforces that statement. The book is packed with information regarding 802.11 Wireless LAN's. Don't be thrown by the title into thinking that this book only covers the basics. In fact, this book covers the basics and much, much more. The book starts off with fundamental concepts of Ethernet Technologies. Not enough to be a great Ethernet reference, but enough to refresh your memory or to get the flavor of Ethernet once again. The book then explains the essential concepts of Wireless LAN's. After some needed high level concepts are covered the book dives into the bits and bytes of Wireless networking, leaving nothing for the imagination. The physical layer details are covered extremely well in this book. There are great depictions that show the different modulation types, frame formats and field definitions of 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g. An extremely important topic on Wireless security is cover better in this book than any other source that I've found. A chapter has been dedicated to the topic. The author's first breaks down the weaknesses in wireless networks then explain how to secure the Wireless network. This chapter is loaded with supporting diagrams and figures. The other challenging topic of Roaming is covered in this book. The chapter goes into the protocol codes that allow mobility to be successful and the author's show a few ways in which mobility can be accomplished from a technical perspective. QoS for 802.11, or 802.11e, is a great section pertaining to QoS in a shared media wireless environment. The chapter is a bit complex and allows some of the more advanced networking professionals to bite off as much as they can chew. The book covers all the radio essentials that one would need to firmly grasp this technology without delving into the complex math behind it all. The title wraps up with great examples of site survey and design considerations. The authors give sound advise on how to approach the deployment of a wireless network that will scale to meet the needs of future Wireless network growth. With the help of the support glossary in the back, I'm much more versed on the smorgasbord of new acronyms and the technology itself, that Wireless LAN's have introduced to Networking community. The glossary makes for a great quick reference. What book would be complete without a good index. This book has a pretty good index that has most any wireless related acronym at your finger tips. Great for a quick find. There are several figures, diagrams and tables in this book. Much more than what I've seen in most other books. The supporting figures, diagrams and tables help a great deal with sorting out the terms and concepts of this simple yet complex technology. The information in the book is mainly standards based and not much, if any, Cisco centric information. Which make this title valuable for anyone seeking to understand Wireless LAN's. This book is best suited for any network professional at any level. There is something for everyone in this title. Sales Engineers will find this book invaluable as they are faced with the many tough questions and challenges from the inquisitive customer. Data Network Salesmen will benefit from this title by understanding what value Wireless networks can bring to a company and how to fit the needs of a company into a viable solution for customers.

Great things sometimes really do come in small packages. I confess I had my doubts when I picked up this book: it seems very small to actually cover the fundamentals of a topic, any topic. But it surprised me. In only about 250 pages, it succeeds in covering how wireless data networking - aka 802.11, or WiFi - actually works. There is even a professional level of detail. When it comes down to it, what makes wireless different is the use of a radio instead of a physical wire. That means, for those familiar with the OSI Model, the differences are all in the bottom two layers, the Physical and the Data Link layers. As an effect of using a radio, of course, anyone with an appropriate antenna can listen in, and maybe join the conversation if they wish, which makes security both important and a little trickier to implement. Now you know the focus of this book. To make sure that the reader understands the data network wireless connects to, as well as to provide a good comparison, the authors start with a review of Ethernet and how the data is exchanged over it, and on out to the Internet. From there, they patiently take you through how WiFi does the same thing, only with a radio instead of a Cat 5 cable. The explanation of how the Physical layer works in this environment is not as long as its thoroughness makes it appear; though less that 25 pages, you will finish that chapter with a decent understanding of the differences in connection establishment and management among the various flavors of WiFi: 802.11, 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. These standards use different means of manipulating the radio waves, with effects (I think) not unlike the differences in data passage among Ethernet and Token Ring. If you're going to use a technology in your network, you need to be aware of those differences, and you will get a deep enough level of understanding from this to either implement a reasonably simple network, or have the foundation - the fundamentals - with which to dig as deeply as you need. There are different means of protecting your wireless network form being used by just anyone, and (especially) from being used to access your wired network. That means you must consider both encryption and authentication, and the various means of achieving these goals is covered at the level of a knowledgeable user. You won't find mathematical representations of cryptographic algorithms here; this is a practical book for those who need to implement wireless, not those who need to design the protocol suite. A working-level knowledge is sufficient.Of course, one of the big attractions of wireless is that you can move while you surf, so mobility by a user is covered, as well. Roaming causes a problem unique to a wireless network: adapting connectivity during a session. If all wireless nodes belong to the same IP network, roaming can be handled entirely at layer two, but you will find times when you need to separate wireless LAN segments into separate routing domains; mobility at layer three is a little more challenging, but can be done. Facilitating both roaming and the many types of communications on a converged network, how to handle Quality of Service (QoS) is covered, too. Finally, designing and actually deploying a wireless network requires you to understand how the radio waves work, at least well enough to place the Access Points (APs) to provide the coverage you need with sufficient bandwidth for the users you will support. Conducting a good site survey matters, and so does planning for growth - both of which are addressed. In addition, the design section has some material to make you think about the impact of your wireless network on its surroundings. Remember, in a hospital, for instance, unwanted radio waves might have very bad side effects! All told, this book is an excellent introduction for someone who needs to implement a wireless data network using current technology. You will probably find aspects to your network for which you'll have to dig a little deeper. That's the only reason I'm giving this 4 stars - I'm lazy enough to want it all in one place, even if the book gets pretty heavy.

Social Physics: How Social Networks Can Make Us Smarter

Review

The Economist:“Social Physics is filled with rich findings about what makes people tick. Using millions of data points measured over a long period of time in real settings, which Pentland calls ‘living laboratories,’ the author has monitored human behavior on an unprecedented scale…Pentland’s research also offers lessons for policymakers and business people. He advances a new way to protect privacy by creating something of a property right for personal information…Social Physics is a fascinating look at a new field by one of its principal geeks.”Kirkus Reviews“A fascinating view of the future of social networks that offers intriguing possibilities.”John Abele, Co-Founder, Boston Scientific:“Understanding, predicting and influencing human behavior has been the goal of social scientists (and leaders anywhere) since the beginning of time. Pentland’s Social Physics is a major contribution to this field. By using communication tracking analysis and occasionally human sensors along with big data, he and his team are evolving a new discipline with a unique taxonomy and ontology that brings a higher level of quantification and rigor to a challenging and inherently complex field. Like Surowiecki’s The Wisdom of Crowds it will spawn further work and research in a rapidly expanding new body of knowledge.”John Seely Brown, Former Chief Scientist, Xerox Corporation and director of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC):“Read this book and you will look at tomorrow differently. Reality mining is just the first step on an exciting new journey. Social Physics opens up the imagination to what might now be measurable and modifiable. It also hints at what may lie beyond Adam Smith’s invisible hand in helping groups, organizations and societies reach new levels of meaning creation. This is not just social analytics. It also offers pragmatic ways forward.”Reed E. Hundt, former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, CEO of the Coalition for Green Capital:“From his MIT aerie, eagle-eyed Alex Pentland has seen the future. His wise and stimulating book teaches us how ideas spring up, flow, and spread. Applying his lessons, we can act collectively to solve previously intractable social, economic and political problems. We can make organizations more productive. We can even have government achieve its proper purposes, with greater fairness and less cost. As challenges like widening inequality and runaway climate change seem to exceed our ability to design solutions, Pentland’s data-driven, reality-based, yet sunny optimism about tomorrow should be eagerly welcomed by all readers.”Stephen M. Kosslyn, Former Dean of Social Science, Harvard University; Former Director, Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University; Founding Dean, Minerva Schools at KGI:“Sandy Pentland lives in the future—and it shows. This book will not only whisk you up to speed on cutting-edge research at the interface of technology, behavioral science, and the social world, but it will also give you a good sense of what could be next. Professor Pentland brilliantly analyzes how new ideas flow and how, with the emergence of the ‘data-driven society,’ they will increasingly influence every aspect of our lives.”

This very well written book contains great ideas that not only are interesting in theory, but very promising if applied to society, as the experiments the author and his team seem to demonstrate. However, this book has a huge problem: it reduces a big picture to the authors particular research, not giving credit nor connecting with multiple different approaches to the same problems. A naïve reader will get the impression that the author and his team are the pioneers or, at minimal, the leading researchers, of several fields such as cultural analytics, memetics, ideas spread, social networks, open data legislation, mathematics of cooperation and collective intelligence. As another commentator put it, the book feels like an academic resumé, and I'd add it also feels like a brochure for the companies the author has found (along with his students). This academic nepotism is bluntly paradoxical, being a book about cooperation, ideas flow, social intelligence and the importance of diversity and exploration of external ideas. It feels sad to give 3 stars to a book that has great contents, but it would be very easy for the author to have expanded the already interesting ideas, connecting them with the work of many other great thinkers and well stablished approaches; the book would gain so much.

I liked the concepts and ideas presented. This is an exciting field. Unfortunately, this book doesn't provide the detail necessary for those of us wanting to become practitioners or apply this emerging science. Pentland mentions "research done" but does not spend time detailing the research that has gone into the concepts presented. (Surely the research is mixed, having some contradictory findings.) We are left to trust that the work has been doneIts a broad, non-academic introduction, and at times almost comes across an infomercial, an opportunity for the author to tout his many start-ups. That's OK if you want to hire Pentland or MIT, but if you're looking for a thorough introduction to the field, I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere.

Social Physics is a field that seems to be emerging with the growth of big data and the smart phone revolution. The author Alex Pentland is a leader in the field of big data and discusses the ideas of social influence and idea generation from the new lense the author has pioneered. The author discusses some of the quantitative experiments he and his students have engaged in to give credence to this new field as well as then try to discuss what he believes the future holds for both the field as well as the world if we incorporate the ideas of social physics. The book is split into four parts. The first starts by discussing how ideas are generated and how we can improve our decision making. The author discusses his ideas about the flow of ideas and the need to learn from others but be weary of ideas which echo one another too much. He uses real world examples from trading site etoro to discuss the benefits of idea sharing but the dangers of too much idea overlap. The author discusses how habits and ideas are developed using results from behavioural science and tries to distinguish between the ways in which we are influenced and how social pressures can strongly influence us. The author then moves on to the second part named idea machines. The author discusses how the way we interact with one another have strong influence on productivity and creativity and that group dynamics are more important than individual intelligence. The author constantly sites experiments he and his students have done to reinforce these hypothesis put forward. The author discusses how incentivizing people to be engaged in their social networks can help adapt to change and make us more robust to the unexpected situations we will face. The author then moves on to the hypothetical potentials he sees for the future. He thinks about the ways in which smart cities will have the right mix of idea sharing but not too much exploration which increase crime as people lose familiarity and interaction which leads to loss of trust. He discusses ways in which sociometric devices will prepare us to better weather epidemics and inequality. The author then moves on to the future with a society in which people have access to large amounts of data about society at large. He discusses the need for privacy standards but with those in place, the utility of big data. The author addresses some relatively untied concepts like free will and how social influence and free will are distinct ideas but tries to reinforce that this new field of social physics can facilitate more egalitarian society with greater human potential and greater economic efficiency.Social physics is interesting and the ideas make sense. Idea generation as being a consequence of recombining old ideas and therefore immersion to various independent ideas is a productive exercise for the individual is not this authors idea, it was discussed a long time ago in economics. There is a lot of self promotion and the conclusiveness of the author's work must be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, the ideas are definitely interesting and important food for thought, i think there is much that is beneficial about the path the author is focused on and the solution his group used in the DARPA challenge presented in the book was ingenious (though a little bit contrary to a conclusion claimed earlier that economic incentives are not effective relative to social influence ones, i encourage the review reader to read the book so that this commentary makes more sense!). All in all I recommend this and it is a look into a potential future that might be soon upon us.

What I (author: Alex Pentland) have learned from these experiences is that many of the traditional ideas we have about ourselves and how society works are wrong. It is not simply the brightest who have the best ideas; it is those who are best at harvesting ideas from others. It is not only the determined who drive change; it is those who must fully engage with like-minded people. And it is not wealth or prestige that motivates the people; it is respect and help from peers. So how do we internalize new ideas and turn them into habitual behavior? Through social physics.Social Physics is the qualitative social science that describes reliable, mathematical connections between information and idea flow on the one hand and people’s behavior on the other. Social physics helps us understand how ideas flow from one person to another through the mechanism of social learning and how this flow of ideas ends up shaping the norms, productibvity, and creative output of companies, cities, and societies.Mr. Pentland makes a cogent argument that our ability to survive and prosper is due to social learning and social influence at least as much as it is due to individual rationality. His research shows that people’s desires and their decisions about how to act are often, and perhaps typically, dominated by social network effects.

Tried to use this book. I didn't find it very useful. It lacked practical information for navigating the country, just didn't seem in depth enough about the cities I visited and the maps were lacking. Ended up using tripadvisor and google maps to meet my travel information needs.

Came on time in great condition. I use Lonely planet guide on all my trips. It is extremely useful and has all the detail required for planning trips and while you are traveling. This addition also includes the country Liechtenstein, which was great because on our way from Switzerland to Germany for Oktoberfest we stopped in Liechtenstein (it is an adorable country by the way-worth a trip).

Perfect for the budget minded traveler who wishes to make the most out of their vacation and see the best of the best. It will save you time, money and offers great advice on traveling abroad. I love the entire series they publish!

While this book would be great for some one who is looking for an overview of Switzerland, I was looking for something more in depth. I was looking more for more in depth descriptions. Because I will be spending a month there, I was hoping for more ideas attractions that are not the norm for the casual traveler. However, this book would do well for the first time visitor or one who is not going to be there for a long time and wants to hit the highlights and must sees.

The guide covers the usual LP territory: larger city maps, places to stay. As such it serves its purpose. The choice of suggested restaurants is questionable - the guide suggests quite a number of chinese and thai places, rather than local fare. Also, if you're looking beyond a place to stay, and want to learn more about the areas you are going to stay, you'll be disappointed - most places are covered by a few standard paragraphs. Would really suggest the official "myswitzerland" website - it's way much better for planning

Got me around. Worked well. I'd recommend it to other travelers headed to switzerland. Photos and text worked well and small size was a plus.

LP has all the info needed for all the budgets out there. Also makes your trip planning much easier in terms of scheduling, transits and connections.

Enjoyed this guide with others on our trip. Multiple guides gave us more information. This guide geared more to younger travelers and those who stay in Hostels as well as anyone else. Some of the information was funny and we enjoyed reading the excerpts. covered all the information we needed.

I only paid $2.99 for this book (check out bookbub!), but I paid too much. I truly enjoy most of PG's novels, but take them with a grain of salt. I always read a reliable source (such as Alison Weir) if I really want to read what is actually known about a given monarch. PG does so well bringing facts alive, but takes liberties everywhere. Regarding this novel: it is the same material, repeated (using some of the same words and phrases), over and over and over again. Some reviewers have mentioned this, but truly, it would be laughable if it weren't so frustrating. MQS is a fascinating woman; so much more could have been done with her character. Additionally, Bess is the reason I gave this book two stars rather than one--she's intriguing. Unfortunately, the fascination ends after the 4th and 5th repetitions of the same exact thoughts and actions. Margaret George wrote 870 pages about MQS, and I found the novel compelling. PG phoned in this one.*Full disclosure: I could not go past the halfway point.*

I've recently become interested in learning about Mary, Queen of Scots; this gives an interesting take on the period of her life that seems to be the least talked about, when Mary seeks protection in England and in exchange Queen Elizabeth causes her to become restrained in an English earl's home to make her comfortable, but not technically free. Other depictions I've seen of Mary make her more likable; Gregory portrays her as quite shallow and selfish, yet still fun to read about. The switching up of narrators throughout this book makes it easy for the reader to see how Mary impacted people around her - George, her genteel imprisoner the earl who has been given the contradictory instructions by Queen Elizabeth to treat Mary with respect as a queen deserves but also monitor her to make sure she is not plotting to steal the English throne, finds Mary to be the most irresistible woman despite his undying loyalty to his wife and his queen. George's wife Bess is jealous of Mary for the bewitching effect her beauty has on men and bitter at all the money and assets housing Mary costs her, but she even admits to the reader it is impossible not to warm to Mary. My only criticism of the book is there's so much anticipation as to what will happen between Mary and her "frenemy" Elizabeth and then all of a sudden, it's several years later and there's a quick description of the circumstances of Mary's death, from Bess after she has received the news. I would have liked Mary's first person point of view leading up to her death, so I found the end to be abrupt and lackluster. But up until that point I couldn't put the book down.

I love historical fiction and I usually love Phillipa Gregory's books. But this one didn't quite do it for me. Mary Queen of Scots is an interesting character who led a fascinating life but in this book the best parts are all behind her--France and her marriage to the king, Scotland and her husband and lover. Here she is merely a pawn in everyone's power game. The book is an elaborate chess game where one queen is moved from place to place while the opposing queen tries to decide what to do with her. As well written as it is, it isn't the best of this series.

This book took me a little longer than usual to read, not because of the quality of the writing, but because this was a part of Tudor history I didn't know much about and I found myself constantly looking up the characters and places Gregory mentioned in the book.I think writing this book from 3 different first person perspectives gave an interesting view of the time period. Three different people have three very different views of the same event. I found myself constantly thrown for a loop by Mary. She never thought twice about lying and it was interesting to see how she would portray an event to others, and then how she actually thought of the same event.Bess is one of the best historical fiction characters I've read in a long time. From Gregory's book, as well as the researching I did on my own, I've come to really love her strength and determination. She was a smart business woman and used that to her advantage. She worked her way up and earned the things she had, even if it was through marriage, and worked hard to keep herself safe and secure for the future. I think more women in books should be like her.Yet again, Gregory has me thinking about the little things in history and how one simple decision can change the fate of a country, and the world. While not my favorite book (The Queen's Fool has that title), it was a great read and sheds more light onto the Tudor era of history.

For me, Gregory is hit or miss, and this was mostly a miss. The book is about Mary Queen of Scots exile and imprisonment from the throne. Written in three voices -- Mary, Shrewsbury, and his wife Bess, the latter tasked with housing her.I had just finished the 5th book in this Tudor series and Cecil was the redeeming character. Therefore it was incredibly difficult to slam on the brakes and read of a nasty, scheming Cecil ten years later.I was thoroughly disgusted with Bess, whose "I am an independent woman" shtick grated on my last nerve. Queen Mary is just delusional, and Shrewsbury loses pretty much all regard by the end, and I felt sorry for him.I was deeply disappointed by the ending. Anyone with history behind them knows the Scots queen was beheaded, yet for some inexplicable reason, Gregory chose to cover the entire POINT of the book in a dream sequence of Shrewsbury and the loathsome gloating of Bess. After committing myself to a long, drawn out account of the Queen avoiding The Tower, why didn't the author at the minimum give Mary a final voice? Not the best. I feel like I wasted my time and bought a different book about this instead.

#777,607 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I got this book for $20 which makes it ok, but at full price this book is a horrible rip off. The information in this book is pretty lame. There is a break on in the margin informing the reader that well written code is referred to as "elegant code" in programming circles. So what? What does that have to do with OO design? That is just one of many. The examples are inconsistent. The flow charts change nomenclature for the naming and some other things from one chapter to the next without clearly or explicitly instructing on why the convention has changed. The book makes a specific point of noting that most OO languages begin arrays with zero rather than one, but then the examples for iterating through items appear as though the author assumes the array base is one rather than zero. Overpriced and not that good.

This is an excellent book to teach the beginning concepts of programming in a platform independent environment. There is no coding. Instead of learning language specific syntax, the students learn critical thinking and problem solving skills while simultaneously learning the concepts of programming. Once they finish the book, they can pick any OOP language and apply the principles to the specific syntax of the chosen language. Some people are disappointed that there is no coding but learning problem solving skills is the first step to effective software development. .

Great intro to understanding the principles of object oriented design and for those learning to code. I would highly recommend this book to anyone learning code and those that are already proficent in coding.

The content is great. It's clear, easy to understand and provides good detail. However I rented this book for a class and the book was shipped to me in pretty bad shape with rips and tears. I returned the rental right away and got the e-book.

This book was informative and insightful, but dull and boring (good reading material if you cant sleep). I learned a lot from this book and the course work from my school, but there are better ones out there that teach the same logic and design.

This author is imprecise in her use of terminology. She switches between similar terms for the same thing without signaling. She uses the same term for different things without signaling. She even uses incorrect terms. The author tends to use a concept in a discussion and then, later, she introduces the concept formally to the reader. Sometimes she never introduces the concept, and youstruggle with the text before you realize that a new concept is involved and you must set about untangling the spaghetti on your own.On a positive note, the author makes good use of analogies to illustrate abstract programming concepts. Overall, however, this text is a monument to mediocrity.

Was the right book, got me through my class, and got there on time. No complaints. The class I took was fantastic, and the book was a good read, not too drone-like!

Got this for school. It was pretty good at explaining the process of Object-oriented programming but the language it used wasn't very clear. The exercises it has throughout are helpful at giving you programming practice but it doesn't really jump into it till about half way through the book.

There I was, buckling my seatbelt at the start of a 3 hour flight from Dallas to Indianapolis. I exchanged a verbal hello to the people crammed next to me, before twisting my body to retrieve my copy of Level Up Your Life from my laptop bag.I was already familiar with Steve's work and mission. I remember years ago when he first started sharing his story, his passion for adventure, and his tactics for making life into a game on his blog. I'd watch the Nerd Fitness community grow from just a few people to hundreds of thousands of Rebels from all over the world. So, I was curious to read at least the first few chapters of his first book to start my flight off on a good note. Before I knew it, my reading was interrupted the captain over the loud speaker "Stewardesses prepare the plane for landing..." Glancing down at my phone, over two hours had passed and I was only a few chapters away form having blasted through the entire book in one sitting. Not only that, but beside be was my notebook with a list at the top that said "Baker's Epic Quest." It was broken down by category with goals and tasks large and small scribbled down each column. On the opposite page was a list of allies I could recruit to help me with various "quests" and several changes I wanted to make to my "batcave" when I got home.To be honest, I expected Level Up Your Life to be good. But I did not expect the book ITSELF to be an adventure to read. It's chocked full of specific, tangible advice and tactics that you can apply right away - but the whole thing is wrapped in a blend of references to movies, books, and games from my childhood. There are no shortages of books with advice on how to tweak or improve your life. Some are good, others... not so much. But in my experience, very few of them have that magic factor that makes it FUN to start dreaming, applying, and changing your life. That's what Level Up Your Life does better than any book I've read in the last 4-5 years. It makes it FUN. I was swept away to a world where I was planning out my Epic Quest. Where I was outlining what "boss battles" I would need to overcome along the way. I imgained what it would be like if I could train my body to support my goals and not hold me back. I planned out my families next trip overseas. At the same time, I was aggressively scribbling down lists of steps. Writing down specific tweaks I wanted to make when I landed. I was doing more than dreaming, I was organizing exactly how I could get from where I was to where I wanted to be.It's no surprise I loved Steve's writing, I thought I would. But what did surprise me is how much I bought into the gamification system he's laid out for his own life. And it wasn't just his example, there were many other readers and Rebellion members he outlined who shared similar goals to me (including the dad who did martial arts with his son, something I do twice a week with my daughter as well).I feel like this book is a MUST read for anyone who recognizes they want to make to add more adventure and happiness into their life and are looking for a system that is not only effective in getting results, but is FUN and inspiring to get swept up into, as well.I de-boarded that plane flight not only with a huge smile on my face, but with a notebook full of tangible changes I could start making that very day.I'm pumped up to make 2016 an amazing year of adventure and positive change. And I have Level Up Your Life to thank for that.

This book is very similar to his blog that I already read (Nerd Fitness), but it was still helpful to read it all at once, rather than just 1-2 posts per week. If you already read the blog you might not gain much more knowledge, but it was still inspiring for me to read. I was also hoping for a specific plan rather than just vague, "go do it" recommendations, but I liked it overall.

Let's be clear up front: The concepts in this book are nothing new. The advice you'll find within is similar to the things you'll find in other self-development books, but that's exactly what most of us need. Most of don't need some revolutionary new hack to make us 5% more efficient. We need the simple tips for success that have ALWAYS been true. And maybe a little more important - we need to hear this wisdom in a way that resonates with us and gets us excited to pursue goals and put in the hard work that will get you to where you want to be. And that's exactly what Steve has done here. He's taken the timeless principles for living a thriving life and made them relate-able for those of us who grew up playing video games and idolizing superheroes. And the principles he espouses really are timeless. No 30-day fixes. No false promises of easy money, fame, and success.Put in a little bit of work every day towards your goal, even when you don't feel like it? Yeah, yeah, I already knew that. But that's boring and hard. But what if you imagine that you are training your secret identity? What if every you treat the work like a Quest in a video game instead of something that you "have to do" because you think you should? Suddenly this thing becomes less of a grind and more exciting. If you are looking for domain-specific advice in fitness, travel, or music, this isn't the book for you. This is very much a self-development book and not a fitness, travel, or music book. This book is about high-level principles that you can apply to any area of your life, rather than the specific nitty-gritty information that you'll need. This book won't teach you how play the violin, but it will give you the principles that will help you do the research and put in the practice that you'll need in order to learn it.Finally: Although it's unwise to rely too much on motivation, this book functions as one hell of a boost to get off your butt and try that thing you've been wanting to try - whatever it is.

This book literally changed my life. I am not exaggerating. It was a fun read, it made me laugh riotously more than a few times, and once, it was so spot on, that it actually made me cry. If you are unhappy with yourself, and don't feel like you can find the motivation to change, buy this book, and keep it right next to your bed.I read a lot of motivational books, so far this one is the best, but that may just be the nerdy 90's kid in me...
