We did not test out the waterproofness of this map. It is a thick texture and sort of a laminate paper, but I'm not sure how waterproof. The reason for the 5 stars was it explained a lot of the reefs and has a detailed map of the island. It was very informative. It also has a blown up section of San Miguel. We referred to it often.

You can literally dunk this map in the water and it will still be usable. Made of good quality material and is foldable and flexible. I really liked all the extra information on the beaches and attractions. My only request is to have more landmarks for the downtown area, however, the ones mentioned were excellent.

I was worried I'd get an outdated map since the Amazon page says "Release date: March 1, 2007" but I'm happy to report the map I received was made in 2013. I think this map will be very useful on our upcoming trip. The quality seems great and I'm glad it's waterproof. If I had one complaint it's that the small text on the map is printed in a color that isn't very contrasted to the background making it a little hard to read with my aging eyes. I'm sure it will be better in sunlight.

Very nice map on water resistant paper. Each dive site around the island has a short description for it, including depths for each site. Site seeing sights are shown on the island as well as a chart of the average low air temp, high air temp and surface water temp throughout the year. A corner of the map is dedicated to the different sea life present in the water around Cozumel. Some historical facts are presented. A close up of the area around the city of San Miguel is on the back side including the international airport, San Miguel and the area along the shore south of San Miguel. Finally, a very close up map of downtown San Miguel is also given on the back side. I received ISBN 1-60190-108-9 for reference.

The map looks wonderful! can't wait to use it to find good snorkeling spots and find the ruins of ancient civilizations while on vacation very soon! I've never spent this much on a map before, but I looked at it as a one-time purchase and an investment in the fun I'll be having. I mean a few bucks to know where everything is and what the things I want to see are is a small price to pay.

I wish I had taken the time to search for this map BEFORE I went to Cozumel, instead of finding it (in laminated form) at the airport on the way out. I bought one on the spot for the friend who took me there, then ordered this folded format one (much easier to use, a little smaller, but less durable) for myself, in anticipation of a return trip.This map clearly shows ALL the snorkeling and dive spots with information on access, dive difficulty, parking, fish you are likely to see and non-acquatic attractions of the island. It is the useful info you would get from an experience and friendly local, not the tourist bureau "It's all wonderful!" you get with the handout maps. Well worth the price!

This is a great classic, and the number one selling novel in the US in the 19th century. It is the original, without 20th century "improvements". The style is very old, but the depth is worth wading through. One thing that will put off readers who are not willing to be challenged is the dialog is in King James English (or semblance thereof). The reason for this is that this is "a tale of the Christ", as the subtitle indicates; our hero, Ben Hur, is a witness of events in the Gospels near the end of the novel. At the time the book was written, the only widely used English Bible was the King James, and it was considered inappropriate to "reword" the Bible. Therefore, any dialog from events in the Bible is taken verbatim from the King James, and for consistency (?), most of the rest of the dialog in the novel is also in King James English. Please beware of the fact that there is one edition of the "original" from the mid-20th century (published to go along with the 1959 movie) that updates the language and is easier reading, but the plot is different and the theology is missing. Like steak vs. hamburger, it does require a little more chewing, but the flavor is much better.

All I remembered about Ben Hur was the Charlton Heston movie, which I saw when I was young -- and all I remembered of that was the galley scenes and of course the chariot scene. The reason I bought and read the book was because of the title: A Tale of the Christ. About half way through the book, I did a Google Search on it and found that it was one of the most popular Christian pieces of literature of all time. I had no idea! I am only 82% of the way through the book, but will rank up there in the top 5 books of all time for me. I especially appreciate Ben Hur's struggle between his human desire for an earthly king, and his soul's need for a heavenly savior -- and the influences in his life to lead him to the truth. A book for all of humanity.

After reading The Robe this past spring I was inspired to read more classic Christian literature and Ben Hur topped my list, but it was a slow start. The language is old-fashioned and ponderous and took me a while to get used to. The description and imagery is minute in detail and while interesting, can be tedious to wade through. That said, the story was beautiful. I am always fascinated by juxtaposition of people’s lives in relation to history, especially the history surrounding the life and ministry of Jesus. The Hur’s are a pious Jewish family under the heavy-handed reign of Rome and Wallace gives us a honest and factual look into the heart and expectation the Jewish people had for their Messiah- wrapped in an action-packed, romantic, philosophical novel. Keep reading; you’ll eventually be grabbed by the story despite the telling of it.

The author does a masterful job of weaving Ben-Hur's story into the story of Jesus' life on earth. The characterizations are full and rich, the description of the settings is thorough and evocative, and the plot is well conceived, alternating between pulse-pounding action and philosophical/theological dialogue. Written as it was in the 19th century, this book uses King James English for the dialogue, which is notable, but I didn't find it overly distracting. I was thoroughly engrossed in the story from beginning to end.

Modern literature pales in comparison to how this story is told. Character development is deep and full. I have to say, I was surprised at the artistic license taken by both the Charlton Heston movie version as well as the 2015/16 remake. This story differs from both in marvelous ways. You won't be able to skim through this, it will force you to ponder and reflect. I'm so glad I decided to read this. A masterpiece!

I was exposed to this Christian tale as a kid watching the 1959 movie starring Charleton Heston. After seeing two other versions (CB DeMille 1920s version) and the latest watered down version (2016?) I tracked down the original novel written by the Civil War general. I was blown away - the film versions do not tell the complete story. The film version water down the story of the Magi, do not cover all of Messalah's personal background ( he had a girlfriend - the daughter of one of the Magi's), and the 1959 & 2016 versions do not expound on the books telling of Ben Hur raising 2 legions of Jews to fight for and support the Messiah. Remember that this novel (which became a best seller read by then US President Grant) was written in the 1870s so reading it requires more concentration.

Ben Hur. A classic tale about revenge. A tale about finding out who really has your back,discovering who you can really trust. Finding out that who you thought these people were may not be in reality who they are at their heart. All along the way finding out you arent the person you thought you were either. Worth the read. The beginning part of the book takes its time in character development. Don't rush this, its important latter. Ben Hur is meant to be enjoyed piece by piece. Slowly like a good ole chunk of cake. This is the first book I have purchased to read about seizures. It is a very basic and informative look at epilepsy and seizure disorders. Some of the terms are confusing, but the book itself is a very easy read. I was looking to understand more about my daughter's disorder (epilepsy) and the medication treatments available to us and also looking for something that would help my daughter's teacher better understand her disorder. The book was helpful in listing all current treatment options. I would recommend this book for someone who is looking for something very basic and as a reference guide.

For a mother with a child who has seizures I purchased this book after purchasing another one, although it is informational it has too many references to get by and not very reader friendly. Recommend, Maybe.

Children with Seizures is written in simple language, and is written in a way that is encouraging for those suffering from epilepsy and those who are caring for children with epilepsy. I would suggest this for anyone seeking a basic understanding of epilepsy.

These are beautiful! I also had ordered the garden fairy bookmarks, emily dickenson bookmarks, and the Monet bookmarks, but these Henry David Thoreau bookmarks are my favorite! The picture on the cover isn't as beautiful as the ones on the inside. There are also bookmarks with a winter scene, a farm scene, a man under a tree by a stream, a buck at sunset, a fall scene and other various nature pictures. I loved them all. Definitely worth the $2!

Totally better than I thought they would be. I used this to round out my total for an order so I'd get free shipping but I ended up actually using these. Pleasent pictures, great quotes on the back, and better than expected construction. Just tear along the perforated edge once you find a bookmark you like. I even gave some to my nerdy friends who I know read as "just because" gifts which they toally loved.

I had needed a regular bookmark for some time as the one I was using started to curl from the heat of a Tucson summer. When my set of 12 Thoreau bookmarks arrived I was captivated by the illustrations and the quotes from the naturalist. I knew of the man, but was very surprised to find out he was only 55 years old when he died. I decided to use the bookmarks in the order they were placed and had no trouble tearing out the first one. My only problem is it seems a little short, so I gave it four stars, but other than that, it is of very good quality, with a smooth finish and bright colors. It gives me peace of mind to know that when #1 is ready to be retired, I have 11 more waiting to take its place, and am very glad I made the decision to give this set a try.

Here are even more delightful bookmarks from the Dover series and they are very nice indeed. They are about 2"x6", printed on heavy coated stock, and neatly and easily separate from the perforated pages. Each bookmark has an excerpt from one of Thoreau's writings and an appropriate and colorful illustration on the opposite side. Unfortunately, the artist's name is missing so we'll never know who did the illustrations.These will make a nice little additional gift when you give a book to someone and will even make a nice, handy little gift for yourself

Received these today. Nice book marks but damaged from the top of the booklet being folded over in box. Tried to report this and the system wouldn't allow for me to ask for a replacement or to even be able to report it. The box had been plenty big enough to lay the booklet flat but instead someone shoved it in after another product and made it fit.

The Henry David Thoreau bookmarks are wonderful. Each of the twelve bookmarks contains a quote from Henry David Thoreau, which is accompanied by a lovely watercolor illustration by Dorothea Barlowe.I admit I was drawn to these bookmarks by the art itself, as well as the quotes by Thoreau. Originally, I thought that Thoreau had done the artwork himself. While I feel somewhat sheepish to be mistaken, I am still very happy with my purchase.Twelve bookmarks for $1.50 is an excellent deal. Because I purchased this along with several other Dover items, I got it on Amazon's 4 (items) for (the cost of) 3 offer.I intend to get several other Dover "Twelve Bookmarks" books in the future.

These are the first Dover bookmarks I have ordered and they are lovely ! They are sturdy card stock, with 12 different beautiful color illustrations with a glossy finish. The back of each features an excerpt from Thoreau's writings. I bought them for myself, but also I'd have something to tuck inside a letter or greeting card, but they would also make a fine addition when giving a book to a friend.I will certainly be buying more of them. Although they can be separated and given individually, a booklet would make a nice stocking stuffer for my bookworm grandson. Dover has bookmarks in many themes and for all ages and I know he will enjoy them.Oh yes ! These bookmarks arrived today -- exactly when promised !

I love to give these to friends because I can write my greetings in them. Each bookmark is small but serves it function very well. When I need to go through a bunch of books for study, i can tear off each one as and when i need to and they do tear off very well. The print job is amazingly good for the price!

I had to use this textbook for my last 2 years of Music Theory class (Theory III and Theory IV). It's definitely a good text as it covers everything I needed to know and had great examples. But it could often be confusing! It seems as if it was written from the perspective of "I'm an expert on Music Theory, look what I know!" instead of a "I'm brand new to all this, please explain it as simply and concisely as possible." perspective. It will definitely teach you what you need to know, but it doesn't have the most clear, easy-to-understand explanations. Thankfully my teacher was great at simplifying the subject enough for our class to grasp the concepts.So overall, if you have to use this book, you won't be disappointed in what it offers, but if you need the theory presented explained in the simplest, most easy-to-understand way possible, then there are definitely other books and websites that'll help you a lot more.

God, I hope this textbook gets better. I'm on chapter six and am self-studying just for fun and it really obfuscates the topic. When the author(s) go out of their way to muddle an explanation you have to wonder what was their purpose.

I've been a proffesional musician for 35 years and discovered Kosta's "Tonal Harmony" during a 13 year period in which I taught music theory in Westborough, Massachusetts. As with all textbooks, this is a supplement to teaching and should NEVER replace the teacher and student dynamic. That said, this is the best music theory text in existence. It uses simple, clear language to explain the concepts of notating organized sound and it does so brilliantly. The fundamental core of tonal understanding can be best understood through the redundancy of four part writing and Kosta makes it very clear on the do's and don'ts. One critic felt that two part writing would be easier, but to come down to guide tone lines (the chromatic 3rds and 7ths) requires a complete knowledge of four part writing, which couldn't be better explained than here. I chose my own listening examples and never used the accompanying recordings. Knowing what to use in a text book is part of being a good teacher. Using this book, every student I had who took the AP Theory exam got a 5. At least 50% of my many students took the exam and I never taught to the test. At the halfway point Kosta introduces the dominant 7 chord which by itself can (and should) take a full semester as the pivotal understanding of Western Harmony is about secondary dominants. Studying atonalism and row tones are here too, and beautifully explained for the advanced student but the first five chapters will create very competent composers. The book opens with rhythm which can be daunting. Touching upon it and returning often will keep momentum. The best way to teach rhythm is with a pair of drumsticks and hemiola best displayed with the work of Stephen Sondheim. Composing and music theory is craft-not art and "Tonal Harmony" is the finest, comprehensive book on music theory in print.it's wonderful in class; just as great for self study. The accompaning workbook is handy but hardly necessary.

This book is roughly 40 times the cost any ebook should be, and it's covered with DRM. I'm legally blind, and this DRM means I can't use my normal screen readers on it and can't convert it to a PDF or other format that's easier for me to use. The publisher is more concerned with protecting its rights than providing a quality experience.

This book is a few editions back, but it really doesn't matter that much (it's not like music theory as changed that much in the past few years, got it cos I could also get workbook with two CDs to match that were relevant), why I bought it--to save $. Perfect for me as a private music teacher to prep more advanced theory lessons, WAY easier to deal with than what I had in grad school, the practically unreadable HARMONY by Walter Piston.

Background:I bought this book because some one suggested it to me as I was entering college (I'm a music major). This isn't the text used in my school-I got it as supplemental/a possible better source. At the moment I couldn't play piano (still not much of a piano player but I get the stuff).The Not so Good Stuff:This book is really technical & nit picky about terminology. You'll have an amazing nomenclature if you can get through this-really but I think some functional aspects are missing. In other words, the book does a great job at helping you to identify, label & categorize things but it doesn't do much for providing a way to develop a working functional understanding of the stuff, then again that's what the workbook is for. And finally, to be frank-this isn't an easy book Dx.Good Stuff:This book is meant to cover four semesters of theory. It covers A LOT of ground & as a single source for it all it's a price friendly text. Going through this book will definitely set you up for just about any kind of theoretical situation-assuming of course you work with the information & internalize it.

I paid $119 dollars for a new version of this book because the description saidit was new and also included the CD—which I why I specifically paid all that money for the new book. There is no CD, and there is also a half-torn sticker on the side that says “used.”

This text is a must-have for every music major. It's definitely my theory BIBLE, but my only beef about the workbook was that there was no way to check my answers to see if I was doing things correctly...
